The Vietnam-Sweden Uong Bi Hospital admitted a 38-year-old female patient (residing in Quang Trung, Uong Bi, Quang Ninh ) who was experiencing fatigue, lethargy, and a rapid pulse.
The patient's family reported that for about a week, the patient had been taking weight-loss medication purchased online. Afterward, the patient exhibited symptoms such as decreased appetite, insomnia, fatigue, chest pain, and delirium. The family then took the patient to the hospital's emergency room.

After examination, laboratory test results diagnosed the patient with acute poisoning, suspected to be due to weight-loss medication. Doctors quickly initiated intensive resuscitation. However, the patient's condition was deemed critical, with severe cardiac arrhythmia, signs of renal failure, and severe hypokalemia. After consultation with doctors from the Poison Control Center at Bach Mai Hospital, the doctors agreed on a plan to transfer the patient to another hospital for treatment.
Doctors at the hospital advise people that scientific weight loss is a combination of a balanced diet and regular exercise . Using weight-loss drugs, especially unproven fast-acting weight-loss drugs, is extremely dangerous; while the weight-loss effect is unseen, the health consequences for those who use them are significant.
