Young man lights the fire of voluntary blood donation

With the belief that helping people is also a joy and motivation to live a more positive life, for many years, Mr. Nguyen Van Chuc in Gia Loc commune, an employee of An Phat Xanh Plastic Joint Stock Company, has been tirelessly spreading kindness through the journey of donating blood to save people.

Mr. Nguyen Van Chuc has donated blood and platelets 22 times.

The number of times you donate blood is almost equal to your age.

In 2020, when he turned 18, Nguyen Van Chuc participated in voluntary blood donation for the first time. That was his first year studying at Hai Duong University (Hai Phong). The memory of the first blood donation is still intact, at that time he was both nervous and worried but also full of pride when he knew that his blood could help save a patient. “At that time, I thought simply, if I am healthy, why not help others. After the first time, I realized that donating blood is not only helping people but also a joy, a motivation to live more positively,” Chuc shared.

From that simple thought, Mr. Chuc gradually became one of the active faces in the voluntary blood donation movement of the school. Realizing that the movement needed to be spread more strongly and sustainably, he proactively established the Youth Team to mobilize voluntary blood donation of Hai Duong University and was highly supported by the Youth Union of Hai Duong University.

When it was first established, the team only had a few dozen members. Thanks to his enthusiasm in persuading and organizing, Mr. Chuc was able to mobilize more than 100 students to participate, maintaining the team’s regular activities. Many generations of students later still consider the volunteer blood donation team as a “meeting place of kindness”, where young hearts beat together for the community.

At the age of 23, with 22 blood and platelet donations, Nguyen Van Chuc has helped save many patients. But what is more valuable is that he has inspired hundreds of other young people to donate blood voluntarily. Many students and workers, after hearing him share his story, proactively registered to donate blood.

After leaving the university, Mr. Chuc became an employee of An Phat Xanh Plastic Joint Stock Company and still maintained that volunteer spirit. Although the production work required discipline and strict time, he still regularly arranged to participate in blood donation campaigns organized by the Hai Phong Red Cross, the Youth Union of Hai Duong University or local hospitals.

Not only donning blood, since 2023, Mr. Chuc has also joined the Hai Duong Voluntary Blood Donation Youth Club (now part of the Hai Phong City Red Cross). Here, he continues to take on the role of connecting and calling on students from his old school and local youth to donate blood, contributing to maintaining a safe and stable blood source for medical facilities.

Spread the spirit of beautiful living

Although young, Nguyen Van Chuc has done many meaningful volunteer jobs to help the community.

In addition to professional activities, the club also organizes many meaningful activities such as fundraising sales, giving gifts to people in difficult circumstances during Tet, visiting and encouraging poor patients being treated at the hospital... Mr. Chuc is always the leader in these activities, not afraid of hardship, devoting all his time off to participate with his teammates.

In the near future, he and the club members will implement a plan to organize blood donation points in wards and communes, maintaining one session every month to create the most favorable conditions for people to participate in voluntary blood donation. "We hope that every locality will have a strong movement, and every person will see blood donation as a normal and voluntary act," he said.

Mr. Ngo Anh Duc, a student at Hai Duong University, said: “I have donated blood 6 times thanks to Mr. Chuc’s encouragement. I feel that participating in the movement not only helps me share but also makes every drop of blood I donate meaningful.”

With his persistent contributions and spirit for the community, he was awarded a certificate of merit by the Hai Duong Provincial Red Cross Society (old) in the voluntary blood donation movement in the summer of 2023, and was commended by the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion in 2024 for his many achievements in mobilizing and directly donating blood. In 2025, Mr. Chuc continued to be recognized by the Hai Duong Provincial Red Cross Society (old) as an Outstanding Voluntary Blood Donor.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mung, Head of Health Care Department (Hai Phong Red Cross Society) said that the youth, students and workers play a core role in voluntary blood donation activities. Examples like Mr. Nguyen Van Chuc are the typical nucleus, contributing to maintaining a sustainable blood donation movement, spreading strongly in the community.
