Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu chatted with readers at Fahasa Tan Dinh Bookstore on the evening of December 5, 2025.

In the main exchange, poet Nguyen Quang Thieu shared his insight into the current state of reading culture among children, and explained why children are gradually moving away from books in an era surrounded by countless sources of knowledge.

The conversation became more lively when the MC, writer and journalist Phuong Huyen, and many parents asked questions about how to get their children to actively read books, how to build a natural reading habit in an environment full of entertainment devices?...

Many students present also boldly asked poet Nguyen Quang Thieu directly about children's concerns when growing up in an era where all interactions take place through electronic devices.

A student asked poet Nguyen Quang Thieu a question during the exchange session.

Answering questions from parents and students, poet Nguyen Quang Thieu said that nowadays many children prefer to use phones rather than read books. The poet said that if all adults in the house hold phones, then children will also look for phones. But if everyone holds books and reads books, then children will look for books.

Children are always guided by the community around them, when adults use the phone too much, children will also find the phone. Therefore, children are completely innocent. When children do not read, the fault lies mostly with adults, for not creating a healthy environment. The same goes for reading habits, for children to read, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles must be pioneers in reading, need to create a reading environment for children.

Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu's sharing session attracted many parents and students to participate.

Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu said that children only truly read when they feel their curiosity is aroused and they have the freedom to choose. This requires parents to be patient and supportive, not imposing. Parents need to proactively create a language-rich environment, read with their children, discuss books openly, so that children can see the joy and discovery through each page. From there, a habit of reading books is formed voluntarily and sustainably.

According to poet Nguyen Quang Thieu, he traveled to many countries in the world to observe and learn good things from them. Through his experience, he said that developed countries, which produce smart devices, have not lost the foundation of reading culture. In every family, there are many books, a place to read books, and they respect and cherish books. Every day, they read books as if they were eating "food" to nourish their bodies. It is the adults - parents who can do this, so their children will follow suit.

Leaders of Vietnam Education Publishing House, Phuong Nam Education Company, Fahasa Bookstore and delegates took souvenir photos with poet Nguyen Quang Thieu.

From all those experiences, poet Nguyen Quang Thieu emphasized: the journey to nurture a reading culture must start from the family, spread to the community and school. For children to love books, books must represent children's lives, reflect what children are thinking.

The poet believes that literature and art in general start from sincerity - a kind of "magic". Magic is not turning stone into gold, but a change within us: looking back at a tree and seeing it more beautiful than yesterday, passing by a person who was once indifferent and now realizing their beauty. Those vibrations are what make us live.
