World gold price

World gold prices fell as the USD index held high. Recorded at 9:30 a.m. on July 3, the US Dollar Index, which measures the greenback's fluctuations against six major currencies, was at 105.395 points (down 0.01%).

Gold fell as the US Employment and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) report released on Tuesday showed that the number of available jobs in the country unexpectedly increased in May, signaling the resilience of the labor market.

However, in a recent note, Saxo Bank continued to be optimistic about gold this year. According to the bank, gold remains an attractive asset to hold and once the Fed makes a policy pivot, exchange-traded fund investors will return to the market. This will push prices higher.

Saxo expects gold to hit $2,500 an ounce by the end of 2024. A recent report showed that gold exchange-traded funds attracted their first inflows of the year in May.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of jobs jumped to 8.14 million in May, from a downwardly revised 7.91 million in April. Economists had expected the number of jobs to fall to about 7.9 million.

US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said at a conference of the European Central Bank that he was pleased with the way US inflation was trending down after recovering at the beginning of the year.

That's a sign that the Fed could cut interest rates in the coming months. However, Mr. Powell refused to confirm this. "We want to be more confident that inflation is coming down in a sustainable way," the Fed Chairman said.

If the Fed lowers interest rates from September, the USD may fall rapidly. Gold prices will increase sharply.

Experts are now focusing on the FOMC meeting minutes to be released this afternoon (US time). Then, the US monthly employment report will be released on Friday.
