On the afternoon of September 26, Mr. Hoang The Tung - Director of Vinh City Medical Center, Nghe An province - said that this unit had taken samples of domestic water in the apartment building where dozens of residents had stomach aches and sent them to the Nghe An Province Center for Disease Control for testing to verify the cause.
"People suspect the cause is the domestic water source, so we took water samples for testing. While determining the cause, we also recommend that residents temporarily not use the water here for drinking and cooking," said Mr. Tung.
Mr. Tran Duc Ky - head of the management board of Golden City 3 apartment building, Nghi Phu commune, Vinh city - said that this apartment building has 105 households with nearly 400 people. In recent days, the tap water in the apartment building has changed color slightly and has a strange smell.
From noon on September 25, many residents in the apartment building began to experience symptoms of bloating, stomach pain, and nausea.
"Yesterday afternoon, I also had bloating, and in the evening, I had stomach pain and vomiting. After that, many other people also had the same symptoms. So far, more than 80 people have had symptoms of stomach pain, vomiting, low blood pressure... Of which, 7 people had more serious symptoms and had to be hospitalized for treatment," said Mr. Ky.
According to Mr. Ky, residents of Golden City 3 apartment building have not attended any communal parties recently, so they suspect the source of the water is to blame. Since the evening of September 25, residents have temporarily stopped using tap water in the apartment building and bought bottled water for cooking and drinking.
He also said that tap water here is pumped through three settling tanks before being supplied to each household. During the recent heavy rain, the apartment building's water tank was not flooded.
