In addition, the Vietnamese Ministry of Health and Social Insurance has recently issued many new regulations regarding the payment for medicines and medical supplies for patients covered by health insurance, and allowing lower-level hospitals to use health insurance-covered medicines like higher-level hospitals, instead of the previous system where the list of medicines varied depending on the hospital level.
Currently, over 92% of Vietnamese people have health insurance. With these changes, patients are eagerly awaiting more convenient access to health insurance-covered medical services. Insured patients will see a reduction in out-of-pocket expenses, which have increased recently due to shortages of medicines and medical supplies in many hospitals.
To help people better understand the changes in health insurance regulations, what can be applied immediately, when the new referral regulations will be applied and under what circumstances referrals are allowed, and which medications purchased by patients will be directly covered by insurance... Tuoi Tre newspaper, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, organized an online discussion titled "New Points on Payment, Referrals, Medications and Supplies for Health Insurance Patients".
