At the 2023 year-end summary meeting and 2024 task deployment, Vietcombank leaders said that at the end of last year, debt quality was controlled according to the target with the group 2 debt ratio at nearly 0.42% and the bad debt ratio at 0.97%.
Meanwhile, by the end of 2022, the bank's bad debt ratio increased by 0.68%. Vietcombank maintained a bad debt ratio of less than 1% at the end of the year for 6 consecutive years.
Speaking at the Vietcombank's summary conference, Deputy Governor of the State Bank Pham Quang Dung - who previously held the position of Vietcombank's leader - said: According to the report, the scale of Vietcombank's on-balance sheet and off-balance sheet bad debt has reached a very large number. Although compared to other commercial banks, this is a small number, but comparing the fluctuations over the periods of Vietcombank, the bad debt figure in 2023 is the largest number in the periods.
VietinBank recorded a sharp decrease in bad debt ratio in the fourth quarter of 2023, even lower than at the end of 2022.
The bank said that the bad debt ratio at the end of 2023 will be only 1.12%. Previously, VietinBank's bad debt/loan balance ratio at the end of 2022 was 1.24%.
Similarly, at BIDV , the bad debt ratio also has positive changes. By the end of December 2023, the bad debt ratio calculated according to Circular 11 is only 1.1%. Meanwhile, by the end of September 2023, the bad debt ratio is 1.29%.
By the end of 2023, Agribank will maintain a bad debt ratio below 2%, according to the bank's report.
Currently, banks have not announced their financial reports for the fourth quarter of 2023. The above figures are based on the banks' published reports.
According to the latest statistics of the State Bank, the ratio of bad debt on the balance sheet has reached 4.95%, bad debt sold to VAMC and bad debt at risk of becoming bad debt is very high.
Informing the press at a recent press conference, Deputy Governor of the State Bank Dao Minh Tu said that the increase in bad debt ratio is due to the economy facing many difficulties and challenges.
