Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn's cabinet approved by the King

On September 3rd, the King of Thailand approved the list of Cabinet members proposed by the new Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

According to the Bangkok Post , the Cabinet list, published in the Royal Gazette, includes 35 other members besides Prime Minister Paetongtarn, including 6 Deputy Prime Ministers.

These Deputy Prime Ministers also hold other positions; specifically, Phumtham Wechayachai also serves as Minister of Defence; Suriya Juangroongruangkit also serves as Minister of Transport; and Anutin Charnvirakul also serves as Minister of Home Affairs.

Mr. Pirapan Salirathavibhaga also serves as Minister of Energy; Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira also serves as Minister of Finance; and Mr. Prasert Jantararuangtong also serves as Minister of Digital Economy and Society .

A notable change is the appointment of Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai as Minister of Defence, while the Ministry of Commerce is handed over to former Minister of Energy Pichai Naripthaphan. This indicates a strategic rearrangement within the government , aimed at boosting both domestic and international activities.

Of the 35 cabinet positions, the core Pheu Thai party of the ruling coalition holds 17 key ministerial and deputy ministerial positions. The remaining 19 positions are allocated to coalition partners, promising a diversified and inclusive approach to governance.

According to sources cited by the Bangkok Post , after the new ministers are sworn in before the King, the new Cabinet will hold its first meeting to discuss the policy statement, which is expected to be announced to parliament between September 11-13.

Earlier, on September 2nd, Thailand's interim Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai stated that Paetongtarn's new cabinet would take office no later than September 15th because none of the nominees had any issues regarding qualifications or professional competence.
