At the main campus, Phong Lan Kindergarten currently has two classes with 47 children and 10 staff members, including teachers and other personnel. Despite having two sturdy classrooms and many other important facilities, the school is situated near a hillside on unstable soil, leading to frequent landslides. The recent heavy rains caused a severe landslide on the side of the school, threatening the school grounds and surrounding households. Cracks in the slope continue to widen, along with several landslides in front of and behind the school, directly endangering the safety of students and teachers.
Ms. Le Thi Tram, Principal of Phong Lan Kindergarten, said that landslides began appearing in 2020, and to date there are six landslide points of varying sizes around the school, threatening many structures on the school grounds. “The kitchen, dining hall, storage room, and playground all have cracks and fractures. We have closed the playground to ensure safety. Especially after the recent heavy rains, the road leading to the dormitory has collapsed and is impassable,” Ms. Tram said.

Ms. Ho Thi Ve, a parent of a student at Phong Lan Kindergarten, shared: "During the rainy days, I didn't dare send my child to school because there were many landslides around the school, and the road my child takes to school also had several landslide points, posing a potential safety risk."
Mr. Le Trung Thuc, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Tap commune, said that Phong Lan Kindergarten was built on the basis of reusing the old facilities of Tra Tap commune. Since 2003, it has undergone several upgrades, and its limited space makes expansion impossible. The recent floods caused landslides around the school, making remediation efforts difficult.
“For now, we have temporarily addressed the landslide areas to ensure the safety of teachers and students. At the same time, the commune has surveyed land to allocate for the construction of a new school site to meet the standards for a standard school. The commune has included the Phong Lan Kindergarten project in the medium-term public investment plan for 2026-2030, and we hope the city will pay attention to it,” Mr. Thuc said.
