Loc Ninh farmers innovate thinking, improve production efficiency

In recent years, agricultural production in Loc Ninh commune has strongly transformed towards modernity, adapting to natural conditions and market demands. On land areas that were once cultivated in the traditional way, farmers have changed their thinking, applied science and technology to production, gradually increasing productivity and income.

Loc Ninh commune possesses abundant irrigation potential when it is adjacent to Dau Tieng Lake - one of the largest artificial lakes in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. This advantage opens up opportunities for agricultural development combined with aquaculture and lakeside ecotourism in the areas: Hamlet B4, Hamlet Loc Hiep, Hamlet Loc Trung.

Mr. Dang Thanh Nhan's commercial frog farming model brings high economic efficiency.

Mr. Dang Thanh Nhan (residing in Loc Trung hamlet) took full advantage of the locality to develop an aquaculture model. With an initial area of only about 500m², Mr. Nhan invested in expanding the farming model, building tarpaulin ponds, water filtration systems and learning frog farming techniques from successful models in and outside the province, thanks to which the pond area has grown to thousands of square meters.

“Previously, I also raised frogs as food for snakes. Later, I learned that the European export market is open, so I learned about it and invested in raising them. The raising time is about 3 months from the time the eggs are released. With a selling price of 38,000-40,000 VND/kg, I earn a profit of several hundred million VND each year,” Mr. Nhan shared.

Not only aquaculture, many farmers have also boldly converted ineffective rice fields to grow durian or replaced old rubber plantations with fruit trees and bamboo shoots. Farmers also apply science and technology and mechanization to production, helping to significantly increase economic efficiency.

Mr. Ta Van Minh's diversified crop production model helps increase income.

Mr. Ta Van Minh, a typical farmer of Loc Ninh commune, was honored twice as “Outstanding Vietnamese Farmer” as a testament to his dynamic, creative and proactive spirit of innovation. His success is not dependent on one type of crop but diversified production, including 3 types of crops: cassava, rubber and bamboo shoots. These are crops that can wait for prices, are less susceptible to pests and diseases, are easy to consume and are not pressured by harvest time.

Mr. Minh shared: “Agricultural production is currently facing many difficulties. Therefore, to increase the value of crops, farmers need to be proactive in production, use machinery to reduce production costs, and increase product prices. Thanks to learning techniques and good care, the crops grow well and bring me a stable income, with profits increasing 4-5 times compared to before.”

Determining that the formation of a high-tech specialized farming area not only stabilizes production but also opens up opportunities to connect the chain, attract businesses to consume products, thereby increasing the sustainability of local agriculture, in recent times, Loc Ninh commune has been building an agricultural development orientation based on advantages and market demand.

Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Loc Ninh Commune, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Loc Ninh Commune Vo Van Hung said: "In the near future, the Association will coordinate with the Economic Department and related units to advise the Party Committee and the government on planning planting areas and raw material areas; coordinate with consulting enterprises to form specialized areas for key crops, bringing high economic efficiency. Currently, farmers still produce on a small, scattered and spontaneous basis, so the local direction is to have a synchronous planning to increase the value of agricultural products."

It can be seen that the changes in agricultural production in Loc Ninh commune have clearly demonstrated the proactive spirit of farmers: daring to think, daring to do and ready to change models to increase income. However, for these changes to be sustainable, it is necessary to have the support of the government in supporting farmers to improve their knowledge of agricultural production; piloting and replicating green, organic, circular agricultural production models, applying high technology suitable to the conditions and advantages of each region; promoting and effectively promoting cooperation and linkage models between the "4 houses" in production and product consumption in the direction of developing large-scale concentrated production areas;...
