TPO - With just over 2 months left until Lunar New Year, flower growers in Tay Tuu flower village, Bac Tu Liem district, Hanoi are busy taking care of the last flower crop of the year to have brilliant flowers to bring to the market on Tet holiday.

Every year, in the 9th and 10th lunar months, farmers in Tay Tuu flower village (Bac Tu Liem district, Hanoi) are busy taking care of their plants to prepare for the biggest flower harvest season of the year.

Tay Tuu flower village currently has nearly 300 hectares of flower growing land, which is the main supplier of fresh flowers for Hanoi and neighboring provinces. The main flowers for Tet are lilies, chrysanthemums, roses...

These days, Tay Tu farmers take advantage of the time to go down to their gardens to take care of the flower fields they have planted to serve the upcoming Lunar New Year.

Mr. Phan Huu - a long-time chrysanthemum grower in Tay Tuu village - said that he took advantage of the morning to go down to the garden to pick small, low-quality chrysanthemums, leaving only the big main buds for the flowers to bloom beautifully. "Chrysanthemums take about 3-4 months to be harvested, my garden has more than 30,000 flowers, taking care of them is quite hard, we have to watch the weather changes to adapt", Mr. Huu shared.

Many farmers are urgently planting crops to serve the upcoming Lunar New Year market.

To have a crop of flowers to serve people before Lunar New Year, many flower growers planted chrysanthemums about a month ago, and now many flower beds have grown 30-50 cm higher than the ground.

Some gardens have just been planted to be ready for the main harvest during Tet.

Flower growers here said that at present, early blooming flowers will be cut and sold from New Year's Day and the full moon of December; the flowers that are being grown and have just been sown will be sold for Lunar New Year.

Many garden owners in Tay Tu are rushing to harvest the early blooming chrysanthemums to bring to the market. In addition, they also supply flowers to many traders who come to the garden to buy.

"Some of the flowers in my house have bloomed and will be sold immediately, the rest will be kept until Tet Giap Thin 2024. Currently, the price of chrysanthemums is about 80,000 - 100,000 VND for 50 flowers. During Tet, it may be even higher," Mr. Nguyen Khac Tuyen shared.

Coming to Tay Tuu flower village at this time, people will witness the scene of people here busy harvesting flowers as well as planting new flower fields for people to enjoy during Tet.

To ensure flowers bloom in time for Lunar New Year, most flower fields here are grown in greenhouses to reduce the effects of the weather.

At night, the garden lights illuminate the sky above Tay Tuu flower village. The households here use electric lights to light up the flower gardens at night to “wake up” the flowers and prevent them from “sleeping”.
