On October 21st, the Vietnamese 3-cushion carom billiards team had four players competing in the second round of the 2024 Veghel World Cup qualifiers currently taking place in the Netherlands: Nguyen Hoan Tat, Thon Viet Hoang Minh, Le Thanh Tien, and Nguyen Chi Long. Nguyen Hoan Tat (in Group A) was the first to play on the afternoon of October 21st, facing Aygun Cin (Germany).
The Vietnamese player started quite well and created a relatively large lead over his opponent in the first half. Conversely, Aygun Cin seemed to have lost his rhythm and had a very low scoring rate. After the first 5 turns, Hoan Tat led 7-0. The score was 10-2, with Hoan Tat holding the advantage after 10 turns.
Nguyen Hoan Tat secured Vietnam's first victory at the Veghel World Cup 2024.
In the 12th inning, Nguyen Hoan Tat took the match into halftime with a 15-7 lead. It seemed as though the Vietnamese player would have an easy victory in his opening match, but unexpectedly, the game became more tense with Aygun Cin's surge ahead.
Hoàn Tất's performance stalled, allowing the German player to narrow the gap to just 3 points (16-19) after 19 turns. Sensing the danger posed by his opponent, Nguyễn Hoàn Tất made a spectacular comeback, scoring 3 points in the 20th turn, followed by a series of 7 points in the 21st turn to re-establish a significant lead over Aygun Cin.
After 22 innings, Nguyen Hoan Tat secured a 30-18 victory against the German player. This also marks the first win for the 3-cushion carom billiards team at the Veghel World Cup 2024.
In the second qualifying round, 48 players are divided equally into 16 groups (3 players per group), competing in a round-robin format to determine rankings. Each match is played to 30 points, with simultaneous turns. The top players in each group will advance to the third qualifying round of the 2024 Veghel World Cup.
With his opening match victory, Nguyen Hoan Tat has a strong chance of advancing to the third round of the 2024 Veghel 3-Cushion Carom Billiards World Cup. Hoan Tat's next opponent in Group A is the Dutch home player, Reggy Brouwers.
