According to VTC News reporters, after years of interrupted construction, the Phuoc Khanh bridge section on the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway is now receiving concentrated resources from relevant units to accelerate progress. According to the plan, this key project is expected to be completed in about 15 months, contributing to resolving a crucial bottleneck on the entire expressway.

Construction of the Phuoc Khanh bridge project restarted in early May 2025, after the completion of the selection process for a new contractor. The project is currently being implemented under package J3-1, undertaking the remaining work of the previous J3 package.

Previously, the Phước Khánh bridge construction package, contracted by the Vietnam Expressway Investment and Development Corporation (VEC) with the Sumitomo Mitsui - Cienco 4 consortium, commenced in January 2016. However, due to difficulties in capital allocation and loan agreement extensions, the project was temporarily suspended in 2020, having completed over 80% of the work. After nearly five years of stagnation, this package has been restarted with a new contractor to continue construction.

Observations at the construction site show that pier P16 on the Nhon Trach ( Dong Nai ) side has risen high with 6 bundles of stay cables installed, marking an important step in the construction of Phuoc Khanh bridge and demonstrating the rapid pace of implementation after the project was restarted.

Meanwhile, the main pier P15 on the Can Gio side has also completed the construction of the 5th cable-stayed bundle and is continuing to deploy the 6th bundle, indicating that the construction progress of key components of the Phuoc Khanh bridge is being accelerated on both sides of the project.

At both ends of the bridge, in the Can Gio and Nhon Trach areas, the access roads to the bridge have been largely completed, including the asphalt paving, installation of railings and lighting systems, contributing to the synchronization of infrastructure and creating favorable conditions for subsequent construction phases.

The Phuoc Khanh Bridge is one of the two largest bridges on the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway, spanning the Long Tau River and connecting Can Gio (Ho Chi Minh City) with Nhon Trach (Dong Nai province). It plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth inter-regional traffic flow. Designed as a cable-stayed bridge, it is over 3 km long, nearly 22 m wide, and has a clearance of 55 m – the highest among current bridges in Vietnam.

The joint venture between Bac Trung Nam Infrastructure Construction Joint Stock Company and Freyssinet Vietnam Co., Ltd. was awarded the contract, worth over 635 billion VND; the expected construction time is 450 days.

The restart of the Phuoc Khanh bridge construction project is considered a crucial step towards connecting the entire Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway. Currently, the remaining construction packages along the entire route have been basically completed, and many sections have been put into operation.

Construction began in 2014 on the Ben Luc – Long Thanh expressway project, with a total length of nearly 58 km, passing through the provinces and cities of Tay Ninh , Ho Chi Minh City, and Dong Nai province. The initial investment was 31,300 billion VND, which has now been reduced to 29,587 billion VND.

The route is designed with 4 lanes for traffic and 2 emergency stopping lanes, with a maximum operating speed of 100 km/h. It serves as the largest expressway project in the Southern region, connecting the Eastern and Southwestern regions, and contributing to traffic diversion and reducing congestion in Ho Chi Minh City's inner city. However, due to obstacles related to investment mechanisms and policies, and difficulties in securing funding, the project has experienced numerous delays.
