There are more than 2 weeks left until the 2023 high school graduation exam. In the "sprint" phase, high schools in the province have strengthened review instructions, focused on systematizing, consolidating knowledge and practicing test-taking skills for students; at the same time, encouraging and motivating students to be ready to take on this important exam.
In June, the weather is hot and muggy, but 12th grade students at Quang Ha High School, Binh Xuyen District are still actively studying and preparing for the upcoming high school graduation exam. In class 12B, teacher Ta Thi Lan Phuong is guiding students to review Math by reviewing the knowledge and formulas they have learned, then solving exercises and practicing exam questions.
Ms. Phuong said: “Before, I had taught the entire program to students, so now, I focus on guiding them to systematize their knowledge and practice questions to hone their skills in taking multiple-choice and summary tests.
For good and excellent students who wish to apply for university, I focus on reviewing more applied knowledge and advanced application. For average students or students who only wish to graduate from high school, I will guide them to review basic knowledge at the cognitive, understanding and application levels. After 3 surveys, the average math score of students has improved.
The review process was difficult due to the hot weather, and some students were sick, so outside of class, I tried to teach and tutor them. I guided them through the review until June 22, then let them review at home to prepare for the exam."
Teacher Ngo Van Vinh, Principal of Quang Ha High School, said: “In the 2022 high school graduation exam, the school had 100% of students passing the graduation exam, campus 1 ranked 11th and campus 2 ranked 20th in the ranking of high schools in the province; many students scored 28 points or more.
In the 2022-2023 school year, the school has 13 grade 12 classes with 502 students. With the goal of maintaining and increasing the rankings in the 2023 high school graduation exam, from the beginning of the year, the school has focused on reviewing for students.
In phase 1, teachers combine teaching the main curriculum and teaching specialized subjects, providing students with key, core knowledge according to the orientation of the Ministry of Education and Training. In phase 2, review work is enhanced, increasing the time and duration of subjects.
At the "final" time, along with focusing on consolidating knowledge and training skills for students, the school continues to tutor students for free to help them improve their exam scores; focusing on reviewing for students with good and excellent academic performance so that they can achieve high scores and be admitted to universities.
In the 2021-2022 school year, Tran Phu High School, Vinh Yen City has 443 12th grade students. The school has developed and implemented a teaching and review plan for students since the beginning of the school year. Entering the intensive phase (nearly the last 2 months before the high school graduation exam), the main curriculum has ended, so teachers instruct students to spend all their time reviewing knowledge of exam subjects.
The review content of this stage closely follows the basic knowledge and skills in the 12th grade program standards and reviews each topic and subject, closely following the sample exam questions of the Ministry of Education and Training; guiding students to practice many types of exam questions such as high school graduation exams from previous years, survey questions from provinces and cities... thereby, practicing skills in doing exercises and skills in quickly answering multiple choice questions.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Bich, a History teacher at Tran Phu High School, said: “Before mid-May, I taught students knowledge according to the curriculum. But from mid-May to the day before the exam, I focused on guiding students to review core and key knowledge, expand social knowledge to make connections in the lesson and strengthen test-taking skills.
In particular, in this final stage, I increased the practice of exam questions for students. The diverse types of questions were created by the group of teachers themselves or collected from provinces and cities across the country and were based on the sample exam questions of the Ministry of Education and Training so that students could get acquainted and practice with the exam questions. Through surveys by the Department of Education and Training and the school, I filtered out students with low results to help them ensure their knowledge and skills for the exam.
Under the guidance of teachers, students are actively studying. Nguyen Phuong Mai, class 12M, Tran Phu High School said: "My goal is to graduate from high school and pass the National Economics University exam, so I am always proactive and actively studying. Through the surveys, my graduation exam scores ranged from 35-38 points; my university entrance exam scores ranged from 24-25 points.
Currently, the exam is approaching, so along with studying according to the teachers' instructions, I strengthen self-study, prioritize practicing key knowledge, strong knowledge to achieve high scores and continue to consolidate other knowledge.
Regarding skills, with the guidance and reminders of teachers, I always read the questions carefully, then mark them with a pencil according to the level from easy to difficult, then allocate time to do the test to get the best score. Besides, I arrange time to rest, eat a reasonable diet and participate in sports and entertainment activities to have a comfortable spirit when entering the exam.
The 2023 high school graduation exam is approaching, teachers and students of high schools are actively studying with the determination to achieve the highest results, contributing to maintaining and enhancing the position of Vinh Phuceducation .
