
French media reported on October 26 that the country's police have arrested two suspects for questioning in the investigation of the recent world- shaking theft at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
The first suspect was arrested at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris on the evening of October 25 local time as he was preparing to board a flight to Algeria.
A second suspect was arrested shortly afterwards in the Seine-Saint-Denis area near Paris. Both suspects were arrested on charges of organized theft and conspiracy to commit a crime.
The Paris Prosecutor's Office also confirmed information about the two arrests.
According to BFM TV channel, French authorities have yet to recover the stolen artifacts in the theft that occurred last week.
In this rare theft, eight pieces of French royal jewelry kept at the Louvre Museum, worth more than 100 million USD, "disappeared without a trace."
Four people are believed to have used a lift to break into the museum's exhibition area in broad daylight and took just seven minutes to steal the expensive jewelry. About 100 investigators have been mobilized to track down the perpetrators and recover the artifacts.
