Promoting Vietnam-Laos press and media cooperation in the digital age

On the afternoon of October 27, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Permanent Deputy Minister Le Hai Binh received and worked with the working delegation of the Central Propaganda Department of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party.

At the meeting, the two sides shared many experiences in journalism and communication work in the context of information explosion, strong development of digital technology as well as responding to fake news and false news on cyberspace.

Speaking at the reception, Permanent Deputy Minister Le Hai Binh emphasized that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to strengthen comprehensive cooperation with Laos, including in the field of press and media. The Deputy Minister said that Vietnam is promoting digital transformation in press activities while promoting the role of grassroots information networks and the official press system in orienting public opinion, spreading positive information, and fighting against bad and toxic information.

In the context of global information competition, both countries face challenges from social networks and cross-border platforms. Therefore, developing a professional and modern press in parallel with developing a grassroots information network system is a strategic task to ensure people have access to accurate and reliable information, contributing to enhancing social trust.

Thanking the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for the warm welcome, Ms. Vilavone Phanthavong, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, said that in recent times, the two sides have had many effective cooperation activities in information exchange and training of press staff. Laos expressed its desire to continue learning from Vietnam's experience, skills and technology in the field of propaganda, especially the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation in journalism and media. Laos also asked Vietnam to support and help in the fight against fake news and toxic news...

At the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue effectively implementing the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation for the 2021-2025 period between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam and the Central Propaganda Department of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. In addition, they will prepare to sign the next phase of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of information and journalism.

Accordingly, Vietnam will continue to organize training courses on digital transformation in the field of journalism for reporters, editors, and technical staff of Lao press agencies; share experiences in digital transformation and AI application in propaganda activities; and increase exchanges of working delegations and reporters between the two countries.

The training courses are expected to focus on skills in applying digital technology and artificial intelligence in news and article production and editorial management; information authentication and security in the digital environment; multi-platform content development and modern editorial management models.

The two sides also agreed to periodically organize delegations to exchange, visit and learn from experiences at typical press agencies in Vietnam to share models of applying big data and AI technology in news production, content management and digital media development.
