At the 100th Anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, held on the morning of June 21 in Hanoi , journalist Nguyen Thi Ngan, News Department, Vietnam Television, spoke on behalf of young journalists.

VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper respectfully introduces the content of this speech "Journalism for the people".

Dear General Secretary To Lam .

Dear leaders and former leaders of the Party and State.

Dear leaders of departments, ministries, branches, leaders of provinces and cities.

Dear veteran journalists and colleagues.

Dear all delegates attending the celebration.

In the proud atmosphere of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, I am honored to represent young journalists to share my feelings at this time.

In the past few days, I had the opportunity to attend activities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Journalism with veteran journalists and journalists representing many press agencies across the country. I heard many confidences, sharing and words of encouragement for us, the young generation of journalists.

"Are our generation of young journalists today truly devoted to their profession, wholeheartedly serving the Party, the Fatherland and the People, truly striving for the highest interests of our nation and our compatriots?" That is what we have been thinking about the most these days.

Veteran journalist Ha Dang, 96 years old this year, has repeatedly shared what he and the younger generation of journalists like us feel very deeply: "Journalism is a front, journalists are soldiers, journalism is not about leaving a name for eternity."

I understand that it is a reminder for us to continue on the path that many generations of revolutionary journalists have taken in the journey over the past century. They always move forward, always ready to accept any task, at any time, anywhere when the Party, the Fatherland and the People need them with enthusiasm, purity, dedication, humility and always strive to learn so as not to fall behind with new knowledge, new technology and new ways of journalism.

I am a reporter for the News Department, Vietnam Television. From the first days of entering the profession, although we were very young, we were given the opportunity to go to remote, difficult areas of our country, to remote border areas and remote islands... There, we witnessed with our own eyes countless stories of the silent dedication and sacrifice of countless people, and journalists like us, when telling those stories to the national television audience, always felt so small. We have seen how beautiful our country is and how heroic its people are, which is the motivation for us to try even harder.

100 years of journalism accompanying the country, we young journalists have only come a very short way, compared to many of you who are here.

Although I only traveled a short distance on that century journey, for me those were truly the most beautiful days of my youth. I was able to go towards the people, listen to so many people's confidences and sharing, to reflect the real life, and become a bridge between the people and the Party committees and authorities.

After each trip, through each journalistic work, we have more love for the profession and more faith in the path that we and many generations of revolutionary journalists have been and are taking. From islands, borders, or places with natural disasters such as floods, landslides, at any time, day or night, in any weather..., we always want to be by the people's side when they need journalists. Just like the slogan of our News Department "Where the audience is, there is News."

I will always remember this image, during the historic flood disaster in Son La province 2 years ago. When the News team approached the area with serious landslides, there was no phone signal, no electricity. We stayed with the people to record the real images and stories.

Amidst difficulties, losses, pain…, there are always beautiful stories of solidarity, sharing, of humanity shining in adversity. It is the tireless efforts, regardless of day or night, of the military and police forces searching for victims, leveling rocks and soil to clear roads, helping families with unfortunate deaths… it is the image of many people sharing with each other and us every grain of white rice, drinking water; it is the relief shipments with all the hearts of people across the country sent to our people.

The day we finished our business trip and were about to return to Hanoi, on the car covered in dust and mud, I saw a line of words that someone had written on the side of the car: “Journalist… I trust the people very much.” Sincere, simple feelings… are the sweet fruit of journalism, so that all hardships and fatigue quickly pass.

Many people often ask me: "Is being a journalist rich?" Very rich! Rich in experience! Rich in emotions! Rich in life experience!

From a reporter who specializes in mountainous areas, remote areas, areas of natural disasters, storms, floods, landslides, we continue to be assigned tasks and have the opportunity to do investigative topics that can be more thorny, more complicated, and take more time and effort to follow. I always keep in mind one thing, as an investigative reporter, but "not dangerous", keep yourself a cool head, a warm heart, and a kind soul.

We always want to express humanity and empathy in all our works, seeking solutions to problems arising in real life. Because any journalistic work has a starting point and an ending point for the best interests of many people.

The more we get into the vivid reality and connect with the people, the more we understand that the most valuable thing is to have and maintain the people's trust in journalists and journalism, and more deeply, it is also the people's trust in the Party and the State.

Once, when I had the opportunity to interview General Secretary To Lam, when he was the Minister of Public Security, I heard the General share a story that I will never forget. At that time, the General had just returned from a business trip to Lai Chau province to build a dormitory for boarding students. The General shared: "Nothing is more beautiful than being close to the people, nothing is stronger than the people's heart, and as a journalist, you should travel a lot to understand the lives of the people out there, to know what the people need from journalism."

During our working days, we always realize the need to be responsible for each human condition in society. Journalists who go towards the people will be trusted by the people. With a pure heart, dedication, and concern for the profession, the profession will never let people down. Among the countless people who are quietly contributing across the country, in all fields, we always wish to become one of those small and quiet people.

The land of girls and boys

Beautiful as a rose, harder than steel"

I would like to borrow the words of poet Nguyen Khoa Diem to conclude today's sharing. We - the young generation of journalists today will certainly continue on the glorious and beautiful journey of journalism. I hope that the previous generations of journalists will believe in us. Although the journey ahead of many journalists present here may have challenges and difficulties, and may even take a different path... but that spirit of "pure heart, sharp pen" in any circumstance, any path will always shine to be kind and devoted to the profession and to people.

Thank you very much!
