Surgery for patients with cleft lip and palate

Accordingly, specialists will organize screening and surgery for cleft lip and palate defects in provinces and cities. All patients with cleft lip and palate defects over 3 months old can register to participate. Patients who are not eligible for surgery (due to low weight, premature birth, poor health, etc.) will be advised on care to recover and be scheduled for surgery as soon as possible.

Specific screening schedule: Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology: June 1 - 7; My Thien Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology (HCMC): June 5; Ha Dong General Hospital (Hanoi): June 5 - 6; Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital: June 28 - 30; Dak Nong General Hospital: July 3; Central Children's Hospital (Hanoi): July 5.

According to the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology, cleft lip and palate are common congenital malformations of the maxillofacial region. Children may have cleft lip or palate, or a combination of both. Cleft lip and palate can cause serious disorders for children such as difficulty eating, sucking, choking, susceptibility to respiratory diseases, speech disorders, etc.

To date, approximately 3,000 free surgeries have been performed at the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology under the Smile Train program. In recent years, the hospital has had speech therapy programs for children after cleft lip and palate surgery.
