The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) - one of three rebel groups - has attacked and captured the Kyin San Kyawt border gate in Shan state bordering China, according to local media affiliated with the MNDAA.

"MNDAA said they have occupied another border crossing called Kyin San Kyawt, in Mongko area, Mu Se district this morning," Kokang reported on November 26.

Kokang also reported that the three rebel alliance groups – comprising the MNDAA, the Arakan Army (AA) and the Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) – had taken additional positions in the border trade zone after launching their offensive on November 24.

A security source told AFP that the MNDAA had raised its flag at the border trade zone at Kyin San Kyawt, a major trading point along the Myanmar-China border.

Also on November 24, government spokesman Zaw Min Tun told state media that about 120 cargo trucks parked near the Kyin San Kyawt border gate were set on fire after being hit by bombs dropped by rebel drones.

Representatives of rebel forces in the area denied the accusations.

Conflict erupted in Myanmar in late October, when a coalition of three ethnic armed groups launched a coordinated attack against government troops. Clashes broke out across northern Shan State, near the Chinese border.

Rebel forces have seized dozens of military positions and a town important for trade with China, choking the junta's trade routes.
