This year's Tet season, four Vietnamese films were released on the first day (February 10) of Tet, including: Mai (Tran Thanh), Meet the Boss (Nhat Trung), Tra (Le Hoang), and Bright Lights (Hoang Tuan Cuong).
After two days of screening, Bright Lights suddenly withdrew from the Tet season race, with a revenue of nearly 700 million VND. The film crew said they hope the film will have the opportunity to reach a wider audience at a more appropriate time.
As of February 13, after three days of Tet, Vietnamese box office revenue recorded a new record from Tran Thanh's work.
According to data from Box Office Vietnam, Mai reached the 100 billion VND mark on the morning of February 13, breaking the "hundred billion" record of Mrs. Nu's House - the previous 2023 Tet film by this director.
Mai surpassed Mrs. Nu's House to become the fastest film to reach 100 billion VND in the history of the Vietnamese box office.
With this achievement, Tran Thanh holds many Vietnamese box office records such as: Film with the highest opening revenue in history, film with the fastest time to reach 100 billion VND, film breaking the record for the number of pre-booked tickets...
Mai's revenue is expected to increase sharply on Valentine's Day (February 14). Many people predict that the work will reach 130 billion VND after 4 days of showing. These are impressive numbers for a film rated 18+.
Mai still has a long way to go to extend Tran Thanh's new records, such as surpassing the revenue of 459 billion VND of Mrs. Nu's House.
The third film directed by Tran Thanh, with an investment of over 50 billion VND, has a dense number of screenings. On the third day of release, Mai sold about 337,000 tickets out of 4,494 screenings.
As expected, Meet the Pregnant Sister is at a disadvantage. Together with the 3 days of early screenings last weekend, which reached over 10 billion VND, the total revenue of the film with Anh Tu - Dieu Nhi is currently 27.9 billion VND.
Director Le Hoang's Tea is not much better than Bright Light. After 3 days of release, the film earned over 1 billion VND.
Besides, many foreign works such as Red Bear Transformation, Family x Spy Code: White, Super Spy Argylle, Arena of Beasts... give the audience more choices, however, revenue does not explode.
