This morning, July 22, Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam received a delegation of management staff of PeaceTrees Vietnam (PTVN) led by Ms. Mary Calaire Yunker, Executive Director, on the occasion of the delegation's visit and work in Quang Tri.

Up to now, PTVN has accompanied Quang Tri province for nearly 30 years in overcoming the consequences of war, actively contributing to promoting socio-economic development and poverty reduction in the locality, while also being a bridge of friendship between international friends and the people of Quang Tri.

The organization has handled nearly 143,000 bombs, mines and explosives, cleared more than 2,700 hectares of land; provided emergency support to 220 bomb and mine victims, long-term support to 62 families, credit loans to 250 families; awarded about 3,500 scholarships to students; built more than 20 kindergartens and supported nutritious meals for more than 5,000 children at these kindergartens.

Built 12 libraries for local women's associations to conduct community activities; built 1 resettlement village and 2 community houses; provided agricultural support to 352 families participating in the Nutritional Vegetable Garden program and 60 families were supported in growing pepper, 30 families were supported in raising goats, and 10 families were supported in growing bananas.

At the reception, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam highly appreciated and thanked PTVN for its contributions to fostering the friendship between Vietnam and the United States in general, between Quang Tri province and the United States in particular, and for PTVN's support in overcoming the consequences of war, contributing to promoting socio-economic development and poverty reduction in Quang Tri.

At the same time, it is proposed that PTVN continue to cooperate with the province in the following activities: closely coordinate with local and grassroots authorities, relevant departments, branches and sectors in the implementation of programs and projects; implement the project of Searching and handling bombs, mines and explosives to minimize hazards and support the province's socio-economic development plan for the period 2021 - 2025; have programs to support development after bomb and mine clearance and increase the scale of support for schools, scholarships for students... In 2025, marking the 30th anniversary of PTVN's cooperation with Vietnam and Quang Tri province, it is proposed that PTVN coordinate in building practical celebration and cooperation activities.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged and thanked the PTVN delegation for visiting Quang Tri province and participating in the events of the first Peace Festival held in Vietnam and Quang Tri as well as attending the International Conference "Lessons on peace, seen from Vietnam's practice".

PTVN Executive Director Mary Claire Yunker thanked the provincial leaders, departments, branches, localities and people in the project area for creating favorable conditions over the past 30 years since the implementation of the projects, helping PTVN effectively carry out activities to overcome the consequences of war in Quang Tri; by the end of March 2026, the total funding committed by PTVN for Quang Tri province is more than 26.3 million USD.

Currently, PTVN is cooperating with the province to implement the project "Searching and handling bombs, mines and explosives to reduce hazards and support the socio-economic development plan of Quang Tri province, period 2021 - 2025 with a total committed budget of 14.5 million USD. This project is a testament to the close cooperation between Quang Tri province and PTVN, and at the same time demonstrates the success of the project through the stages.

Ms. Mary Claire Yunker affirmed that PTVN will also continue to coordinate with localities to effectively implement activities to overcome the consequences of war, in the field of education... according to the set plan.
