The expressway is 66 km long and 12 m wide, connecting Hue - Da Nang , with two lanes and a design speed of 60-80 km/h.
In recent days, prolonged heavy rains have caused flash floods, forcing many locations on the route to be temporarily closed due to flooding and strong currents; some sections have suffered landslides and cracked road surfaces. Notably, on the morning of October 28, at Km 42 (Da Nang City), a serious landslide occurred, with thousands of cubic meters of rock and soil spilling onto the road surface. Machinery and human resources have been mobilized to clear about 2,000 cubic meters of rock and soil, reopening one lane; the entire repair work is expected to take about two days.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha directed: It is necessary to re-evaluate the entire expressway, including geological items, with the participation of independent agencies, to correctly determine the causes of landslides and flooding from design to construction.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the current recovery is still not thorough. Many locations with light rain are also affected, heavy rain is more serious, potentially dangerous for people and vehicles. The Deputy Prime Minister requested relevant units to have fundamental solutions to prevent the incident from recurring, and at the same time review the entire design area, materials, and construction structure to ensure long-term safety.

Previously, to overcome landslides on the La Son - Hoa Lien expressway, the Ministry of Construction issued a dispatch requesting the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board, the expressway investor, to coordinate with the Vietnam Road Administration, the Traffic Police and contractors, to implement the "four on-site" motto, fully arrange human resources, machinery, equipment and materials to be ready to overcome incidents, rescue and provide relief, while ensuring safety for people and vehicles participating in traffic.
Units must also clean up and move equipment and materials to safe places, deploy measures to brace, support, and anchor equipment that cannot be moved, clear drainage systems, and fully arrange warning signs, especially at underwater construction sites.
The Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board and construction units must urgently inspect, review, detect and immediately handle risky locations, especially sections under construction and expansion, to ensure the safety of works, human resources and vehicles on the route.
