The video is sure to go viral across the Arab world , where the 53-year-old journalist has become a public face for Palestinians in many wars, revered in his native Gaza for telling stories of their pain and hardship to the outside world.
According to Al Jazeera, members of Dahdouh's family were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Nuseirat Refugee Camp, located in an area in Gaza that the Israeli military has encouraged residents to flee to for safety.
Dahdouh's family is among more than 1 million Gaza residents displaced by the war, now in its 19th day, and was living in a house in Nuseirat when the bombing occurred, the news agency said.
Health authorities in Gaza say Israeli attacks have killed more than 6,500 Palestinians. According to Israeli authorities, the fighting has killed more than 1,400 people in Israel.
Earlier, Dahdouh had been on air reporting the aftermath of a separate attack that killed at least 26. Throughout the war, Dahdouh remained in Gaza City, despite Israeli calls for residents to head south ahead of an expected ground offensive.
Hundreds of thousands have fled to Nuseirat and other locations in central and southern Gaza, believing they would be safer. However, Israeli attacks continue to hit those areas.
The Israeli military has not commented on the incident. However, the Israeli military previously said that it only attacked Hamas military targets in Gaza.
