In the last days of October, heavy rains from Da Nang to Quang Ngai caused 54 communes and wards to be submerged in water; 107 landslides buried dozens of houses, and traffic was severely cut off. In the midst of the flood, more than 11,800 officers and soldiers of Military Region 5, along with hundreds of vehicles, canoes, motorboats, and specialized vehicles, overcame danger, crossed the flood to reach the people, rescue, evacuate, and transport food and necessities to isolated areas.

The forces safely evacuated more than 7,200 households with nearly 24,000 people, distributed nearly 10 tons of dry food, thousands of boxes of instant noodles, more than 76,000 bottles of water, 12,000 boxed meals, milk, and canned meat to people in deep flooded areas. The Military Region's engineering units coordinated with local authorities to overcome 40 landslides, opened many national and provincial highways, helping people restore production and stabilize their lives.

The image of soldiers of Military Region 5 "braving the rain and floods", carrying old people, holding children, delivering packages of noodles and bottles of water to flooded houses has become a touching and humane image, adding faith and strength to the people of Central Vietnam in times of trouble.

Speaking at the conference, Lieutenant General Le Ngoc Hai highly appreciated the spirit of shock and dedication of the troops in the entire Military Region. At the same time, he emphasized: "In any situation, the Military Region 5 must be the force that arrives first and leaves last, not letting people go hungry or cold, not letting anyone be left behind."

The Commander of the Military Region requested that units continue to closely monitor the area, coordinate with the authorities, police, forces of the Ministry of National Defense and localities to search for missing people, overcome landslides, clean up schools, clinics, bridges, and help people stabilize their lives soon. At the same time, focus on preventing epidemics after floods, handling environmental pollution, ensuring logistics, and absolute safety for forces and people. Do a good job of propaganda and mobilizing people, maintaining political security and social order, and not allowing hostile forces to take advantage of natural disasters to distort and incite.

In Tra Leng, Tra Tan, Ngoc Linh or Son Ha…, the soldiers of Military Region 5 still stick with the people day and night, working as engineers, doing mass mobilization, and being a solid spiritual support for the people in the flooded areas. They not only level the ground and rocks, rebuild the roofs, but also sow trust, warm people’s hearts with their dedication, responsibility and love.
