Attending the opening ceremony were Olivier Lavenka, Mayor of the ancient city of Provins; Dinh Toan Thang, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to France; Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Ambassador and Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to UNESCO; and Le Thi Hong Van, Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Cultural Diplomacy (Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
The images are displayed in the Exhibition Space.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nguyen Thanh Quang, Director of the Thang Long-Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center, said: "We are introducing images of the Co Loa National Special Monument, a heritage site with many similarities to the ancient city of Provins and with great potential to become a world cultural heritage site."
Co Loa, a legendary land with the largest earthen citadel in ancient Vietnam and Southeast Asia, boasts unique cultural spaces and festivals, blending legend and reality.
"We hope that this additional promotional space will serve as a bridge to help more French and international tourists learn about the heritage of Hanoi and Vietnam. It will also be a further step in the cooperation between the two entities in the new phase, according to the agreement signed on October 1, 2024," Mr. Nguyen Thanh Quang emphasized.
Opening of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel and Co Loa Relic Site Heritage Promotion Space at the Provins Ancient City World Heritage Site.
The Hanoi People's Committee and the Ile-de-France Regional Council officially established relations in 1989. Over more than 35 years, the Hanoi-Ile-de-France cooperative relationship has been continuously strengthened and developed in many fields. It has become a model of local-level cooperation between Vietnam and the Republic of France.
The Hanoi-Ile-de-France cooperative relationship not only has a long and rich history but also generates numerous highly effective collaborative activities, programs, and projects spanning many fields: environment and sustainable development, urban planning, economic development, innovation and research, culture, heritage, and tourism.
According to the cooperation agreement between the two cities, the Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center has recently carried out many effective collaborative activities with heritage and tourism management agencies of the Ile de France region, such as: exchanging experiences and developing activities and projects on heritage conservation, tourism development, and restoration of French architectural works at Thang Long Imperial Citadel; exchanging interns and training staff; organizing cross-exhibitions between the two heritage sites, etc.
Based on the results of the cooperation agreement for the period 2019-2022, on October 1, 2024, the Thang Long-Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center continued to sign a cooperation agreement with the Provins Ancient City for the next phase, focusing on activities such as: exhibitions and image promotion; tourism promotion; internships and experience exchange; organizing international scientific seminars and conferences; and providing technical support to enhance the value of the Co Loa special national relic site…
French tourists visit Space.
This exhibition space promoting the image of the Co Loa historical site at Provins marks the beginning of a new phase of cooperation between the two units. Building upon the Thang Long Imperial Citadel exhibition space established and displayed since 2022, the Center has updated and supplemented content, images, and video clips introducing the Co Loa National Special Historical Site with the theme: Co Loa, a land of legends.
The exhibition includes 3 standees showcasing the historical value, unique relics and artifacts of Co Loa; the intangible cultural values of Co Loa (festivals, cuisine, customs and traditions); and the image of the Dragon at the Co Loa historical site. The exhibition content is supported by video clips and QR codes, a set of promotional materials, and gifts.
The exhibition will take place from July 2025 to December 2026 at the ancient Saint-Ayoul Church, Provins, France.
The space for promoting the heritage of Thang Long Imperial Citadel and Co Loa Ancient Relic Site at Provins is the clearest continuation of the sustainable cooperation between the Thang Long-Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center and the ancient town of Provins, opening a new, promising and practical phase of development between the two units, with the goal of preserving and promoting the shared heritage of humanity.

Alongside the implementation of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel and Co Loa Ancient Relic Site Heritage Promotion Space in the Provins Ancient Town, both sides also launched a cooperation plan in media promotion and introduction of heritage: coordinating the compilation, editing, and posting of articles and images about the Provins Ancient Town on the Thang Long Imperial Citadel's Fanpages (such as Facebook, website, YouTube) and vice versa.
Simultaneously, enhance the effectiveness of communication in the cooperation program between the Thang Long Imperial Citadel Heritage Site (Vietnam) and the ancient city of Provin (Republic of France) through linking the official websites of both sides; printing joint, bilingual (Vietnamese-French) leaflets and brochures, introducing characteristic images of the heritage sites of both sides.
