By 2030, Quang Ngai 's export value of cassava and cassava products is expected to reach 150-180 million USD.

This is one of the main contents of the Implementation Plan for the Sustainable Development of the Cassava Industry until 2030, with a vision to 2050, issued by the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province.

Farmers in Quang Ngai are harvesting cassava.

The specific objective of this Plan is that by 2030, the province's fresh cassava production will reach approximately 250-300 thousand tons, ensuring the supply of raw materials for the deep processing of several products (starch, ethanol, etc.).

The area planted with cassava using high-quality, standardized varieties reached 40-50%; the area planted with cassava applying sustainable farming practices reached 50%; and the export value of cassava and cassava products reached 150-180 million USD.

By 2050, Quang Ngai's cassava industry is expected to continue developing sustainably, with 70-80% of the cassava growing area applying sustainable farming practices, over 90% of fresh cassava production used for deep processing into various products (starch, ethanol, etc.), and export revenue from cassava and cassava products reaching approximately 180-200 million USD.

Regarding production development orientation, by 2030, the total cassava planting area in the province will be approximately 12-14 thousand hectares, with a fresh tuber yield of 250-300 thousand tons, distributed across two key regions. Specifically, the mountainous region will have a planting area of 9-10 thousand hectares, concentrated in the districts of Son Ha, Son Tay, Minh Long, Tra Bong, Ba To, etc.; the lowland region will have a planting area of 3-4 thousand hectares, concentrated in the districts of Son Tinh, Tu Nghia, Binh Son, Nghia Hanh, etc.

The development orientation for cassava processing, until 2030, is to continue encouraging economic entities to invest in building new or upgrading existing processing plants for cassava products (starch, ethanol, etc.).

At the same time, encourage the development of businesses processing confectionery, glucose syrup, instant noodles, animal feed, etc., using cassava and cassava starch as raw materials, prioritizing the use of new and advanced technologies in cassava processing to improve quality, maximize the use of by-products, and protect the environment.

For the cassava processing sector, the target for 2030 is for the total processing capacity in the province to reach 250-300 thousand tons of fresh tubers per year.

The People's Committee of Quang Ngai province has assigned relevant districts, towns, cities, and departments to determine the scale of concentrated cassava production areas in accordance with the provincial plan, local plans, and other relevant plans.

Implement synchronized solutions to support attracting businesses to invest and promote the formation of value chains; support the development of cooperatives and cooperative groups; with a focus on supporting the establishment of new and improving the operational efficiency of cassava production cooperatives.

Based on practical conditions, businesses collaborate with cassava-growing households to establish raw material areas; supply input materials (seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, etc.); transfer scientific and technological knowledge, provide technical guidance, and market the products. Research and development of new cassava varieties with high yields, high starch content, and resistance to pests and diseases are also conducted.

Regarding the product consumption market, for the international market: continue implementing solutions to maintain existing cassava consumption markets; at the same time, promote trade activities, expand markets, and remove trade barriers to create favorable conditions for Quang Ngai cassava products to be widely consumed in international markets .

For the domestic market: in addition to encouraging the development of businesses processing cassava products, localities need to continue attracting businesses processing confectionery, glucose syrup, instant noodles, animal feed, etc., using cassava and cassava starch as raw materials to increase the value chain of the cassava industry.

Cassava is one of the main crops in Quang Ngai province, grown in many areas, especially mountainous regions, contributing positively to poverty reduction for the people. However, due to the impact of cassava mosaic disease, the area planted with cassava in Quang Ngai has gradually decreased from 2022 to the present, fluctuating from 13,098 hectares to 4,082 hectares per year.
