On March 2nd, the University of Foreign Languages - Da Nang University, in collaboration with WeMaster Creative Education Co., Ltd., the Institute of Educational Technology (CGD), Zeeko, and the iYes International Education System, organized a talk show titled "Cultivating Global Citizenship Thinking," with the participation of many domestic and international experts and hundreds of students.
According to information presented at the talk show, a report by the International Labour Organization (ILO) indicates that the number of Vietnamese people registering to work abroad increased 1.5 times in 5 years (from 2014 to 2019). Accordingly, the number of digital nomads in Da Nang City increased by 99% in 5 years and by 107% in 2023 alone.
As a result, Da Nang City ranks second in the world , only after Tokyo (Japan), becoming an attractive choice for digital nomads. This means that young people in Da Nang City face both opportunities and challenges: equipping themselves with the skills to adapt to global trends and survive in the increasingly competitive job market.
Joe Kenny, co-founder of Zeeko Education Technology (Ireland), shared with students the essential skills for becoming a global citizen.
At the seminar, Mr. Ho Thanh Binh, Deputy Director of the Institute of Educational Technology (CGD), stated that understanding the qualities and skills needed to become a global citizen in the current context is essential. Young people need to be equipped with the necessary mindset, knowledge, communication skills, cultural understanding, and awareness of global issues.
This knowledge not only helps students develop personally but also enables them to become active contributors to the community and society; to become active, responsible citizens capable of integrating and cooperating with everyone, regardless of culture, nationality, or language.
Notably, during the talk show, drawing from his own experience, global entrepreneur Joe Kenny, co-founder of Zeeko Education Technology Company (Ireland), shared insights on the importance of essential skills for becoming an entrepreneur in a global environment. These include communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. He argued that these skills should be introduced to young people worldwide as early as possible.
Joe Kenny spent 10 years founding, developing, and expanding educational products that teach these skills through an integrated education and technology product: Magical Leaders.
Students in Da Nang enthusiastically asked the speakers questions about the topic of global citizenship.
Currently, Magical Leaders has been implemented in over 300 schools in the UK, Ireland, India, and soon in Vietnam. This program is based on the PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education) curriculum from the UK and has proven effective in Europe and India.
