Specifically, in the performance titled "The Connection of the Sea", the host country Thailand sketched a map of Vietnam, but this map did not show the Paracel and Spratly Islands and Phu Quoc Island (photo) . This is a huge and unacceptable mistake by the 33rd SEA Games Organizing Committee. Also at the opening ceremony, the Organizing Committee mistook the Indonesian flag for Singapore's when showing on the big screen the previous SEA Games.

The 33rd SEA Games Organizing Committee made a serious mistake when displaying a map of Vietnam without the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos and the Phu Quoc archipelago.

This is not the first time Thailand has made a serious mistake related to the image of Vietnam. Recently, Thailand mistook the Vietnamese flag for the Chinese flag at the draw ceremony for the U.19 Southeast Asian futsal tournament. At the 33rd SEA Games, the official fanpage of the congress posted the schedule for the women's futsal competition with the wrong flag (the Thai team displayed the Vietnamese flag, while the Indonesian team displayed the Lao flag). Before the match between U.23 Vietnam and U.23 Laos, the Organizing Committee had a sound problem, so the two teams had to sing the national anthem without accompaniment. Afterwards, the Organizing Committee apologized for this incident, but did not apologize for the incident of displaying the wrong flag.
Sharing with Thanh Nien Newspaper, the leader of the Vietnamese sports delegation said that the delegation has contacted the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand to coordinate in handling the incident related to the image of Vietnam without the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos and Phu Quoc island at the opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games. The delegation will have official information today (December 10).
