After a long wait in the form of rumors and prototypes, Samsung today officially launched its first triple-folding smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold. This product crystallizes Samsung's expertise in foldable devices — which has spanned over 16 products — and brings the largest screen ever on a foldable Galaxy device, along with smart software tweaks and top-of-the-line flagship specs.

The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold's packaging will immediately impress you with its thickness.

In the box, besides the "main character" which is the Galaxy Z TriFold, users will receive a set of accessories including a case, charging cable, SIM ejector pin and 45W charger - something that Samsung has long removed from its phone lines.

With a one-piece case, this accessory is finished from a fairly thin hard plastic material, with a rough surface with a carbon fiber pattern similar to the back of the device. On the side of the case is the appearance of a hinge protector that can flexibly open and close when the device is folded.

When looking at the front of the Galaxy Z TriFold for the first time without opening the device, many people will probably mistake it for the Galaxy Z Fold7 because the design and size are almost identical.

However, as soon as you flip the device horizontally and look at the bezel, the difference immediately appears because the Galaxy Z TriFold's folded thickness will be larger than the regular Z Fold7. Specifically, the folded size of the Galaxy Z TriFold is about 12 mm compared to only 8.7 mm of the Galaxy Z Fold7.

When fully opened, the Galaxy Z TriFold is just 3.9mm thin, making it the thinnest phone Samsung has ever created.

The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold has a different folding/unfolding mechanism than the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate.

Instead of folding in a Z shape like Huawei's flagship model, the Galaxy Z TriFold will use a U-shaped folding mechanism (folding and opening like a roll-in operation with the outer and inner screens using two independent panels).

Compared to the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate, which uses a single panel for both folding and unfolding operations, Samsung's finishing will better protect the inner screen; at the same time, it will also make the device a bit heavier with an additional weight of 300 grams (Huawei Mate XT Ultimate weighs 298 grams).

The outer screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2; while the inner screen still has the same flexible material as the Galaxy Z Fold7 to ensure flexibility when opening and closing. The IP48 water resistance standard (like the Galaxy Z Fold7) is still present on this 3-fold phone model.

The back of the Galaxy Z TriFold is made from Fiberglass Composite with a carbon fiber pattern. This gives the device a very solid and sturdy look (although it is still plastic in nature). The back is also home to a 3-camera cluster with a similar design and position as the Galaxy Z Fold7.

With the external screen, Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold has a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, 6.5 inches in size, 2560 x 1080 pixels resolution (21: 9 ratio), maximum brightness of 2,600 nits and LTPO technology that allows the scanning frequency to range from 1-120Hz.

However, the screen size has been increased to 10 inches with a resolution of 2160 x 1584 pixels (16:11 ratio), maximum brightness reaching 1,600 nits.

The initial impressions of the screen while close-up of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold show that Samsung has optimized very well for this size. The feeling that the device brings is almost similar to Samsung's Galaxy Tab models, making users not have to learn or get used to the operation again. The specific usage experience will be mentioned below.

The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is equipped with a 3-lens system with a 200MP main sensor, a 10MP 3x telephoto sensor and a 12MP wide-angle lens. The device is also equipped with 2 selfie cameras for both the inner and outer screens with a resolution of 10MP.

Thanks to the all-new 3-fold mechanism, the camera interface will also be slightly different. However, initial experiences have not shown that taking photos with a 3-fold device will bring any significant advantages compared to traditional 2-fold products.

The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage for the base model. When looking closely at the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, the software is definitely a factor that cannot be ignored.

Thanks to the screen size of up to 10 inches, Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold has a huge advantage in the amount of information that can be displayed compared to the 2-fold device. Thanks to the long time of making tablets, the software on Galaxy Z TriFold is very well optimized for large screens when there is almost no empty space on the screen.

In addition, thanks to the new 16:11 ratio, the Galaxy Z TriFold offers a real tablet-like user experience, with the interface and operations being different when held horizontally or vertically. That's completely different from the traditional 2-fold phone model, which has a nearly square screen ratio.

Furthermore, owning a large screen size allows Samsung to add a 3-screen split feature with 2 main layouts, helping to improve device performance.

In addition, when activating Samsung DeX, the Galaxy Z TriFold will turn the interface into a tablet format instead of requiring a connection to a separate screen. Even if connected to a separate screen, this 3-fold phone can become a secondary screen - a feature similar to the Galaxy Tab S models.

The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is equipped with a 5,600 mAh battery (similar to the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate). It is not clear what battery technology Samsung uses, but it is rumored to be Silicon Carbon. Fast charging has been upgraded from 25W (on the Galaxy Z Fold7) to 45W, similar to Samsung's current Galaxy S Ultra models. The device still supports wireless charging with a maximum capacity of 15W.

The Galaxy Z TriFold has only been launched in Korea with a converted price of about 66 million VND, making this one of the most luxurious phones Samsung has ever sold.
