Karate is one of the sports that has generated high expectations today, with four finalists in Kumite (sparring): Hoang Thi My Tam (women's 61kg), Dinh Thi Huong (women's 68kg), Vo Van Hien (men's 75kg), and Nguyen Thanh Truong (men's under 84kg).

Vietnamese Kumite fighter Hoang Thi My Tam opened the afternoon's triumphant performance by defeating the home fighter from Thailand, Maneevan, with a score of 11-2, winning the gold medal in the women's 61kg weight category.
This is My Tam's second consecutive individual gold medal at the SEA Games. At the 32nd SEA Games, My Tam won both the individual and women's team gold medals, and at the 33rd SEA Games, she won the individual gold medal.
My Tam's gold medal provided a huge boost of motivation for her teammates to compete afterward.
In the men's under-84kg final, Nguyen Thanh Truong faced Indonesian athlete Arif. Despite his leg injury, Thanh Truong stood firm and won the match 4-1, securing the gold medal.

Then, Dinh Thi Huong completed a "golden hat-trick" for Vietnamese Karate that day after defeating her Indonesian opponent, Yefanza, in the women's 68kg final with a score of 8-5.
Unfortunately, Vo Van Hien could not achieve the same results as his teammates, as he lost in the men's 75kg final, winning the silver medal.
Thus, after 4 Kumite finals, Vietnamese Karate won 3 gold medals and 1 silver medal.
With the addition of 3 more gold medals this afternoon, Vietnamese Karate has won 5 gold medals at the SEA Games 33, following the achievements of Nguyen Thi Phuong/Nguyen Ngoc Tram/Hoang Thi Thu Uyen (women's team kata) and Khuat Hai Nam (men's 67 kg category).
As of 3:00 PM this afternoon, December 13th, the Vietnamese sports delegation has won 27 gold medals, temporarily ranking second after Thailand.
