Earlier, on the morning of December 9th, at the professional briefing conference on general education for the first semester of the 2025-2026 school year, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced that since New Year's Day (January 1st, 2026) falls on a Thursday, schools can allow students to have an additional day off on Friday (January 2nd), creating a four-day holiday (including Saturday and Sunday).

The make-up class for Friday (January 2nd) will be conducted online or on the following Saturday to ensure the program is completed.

However, on the evening of December 9th, Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of the Office of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, affirmed that the New Year's Day holiday for the education sector follows the general regulations of the whole country, without exception compared to other sectors.

Specifically, according to the Labor Code, New Year's Day (January 1st) is an official holiday for workers and students nationwide.
