Worrying signs for SEA Games 33

"What happened on the first day (December 3) was not just a small mistake, but also a "worrying signal", showing that Thailand's hosting of the 33rd SEA Games may need to speed up efforts and improve many things, to avoid causing further damage to the image of the country and the Thai sports industry," Thairath Online frankly expressed.

The 33rd SEA Games will officially open on December 9 at Rajamangala Stadium. However, on the day of the first competition, men's football, a series of unacceptable incidents occurred, causing shock not only to Thai fans, but also to most fans in the region, according to Thairath Online .

"It's confusing, because the problems that remained after the first day of the event made everyone extremely worried and did not understand what the organizing committee of the 33rd SEA Games, host Thailand, had done to allow such incidents to happen.

The stadium lights were damaged, the national anthem was not played, the seat reservation system had problems, fans were indifferent, the stands were empty... These things made the opening match of U.23 Thailand (winning U.23 Timor Leste with a score of 6-1 in Group A), but completely overshadowed", according to Thairath Online .

Thairath Online also said that the incident of the National Anthem not being played at Rajamangala Stadium, forcing the players of the U.23 Vietnam and Laos teams to sing the National Anthem "aha", has really made Thai people extremely upset with the organization right in their own home. They consider this "a mistake that should not happen in major tournaments in the region".

More importantly, Rajamangala Stadium has been renovated and upgraded to prepare for major events at the 33rd SEA Games with a budget of up to 125.2 million baht (about more than 100 billion VND), but still has a series of serious problems. Thairath Online reporters also discovered that the toilets at Rajamangala Stadium, although renovated, are still very dirty due to the lack of cleaning staff.

"There is still time for the Thai host organizers to race to improve things, as the main event, the opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games, will take place on December 9. But with such a difficult start, the public is questioning whether the preparations for this expensive event are enough," Thairath Online emphasized.

Meanwhile, according to feedback from Thai fans, the booking and ticket registration system on the website of the 33rd SEA Games organizing committee is "very messy", and does not accurately reflect the reality on the field.

Although the organizers offered free admission and required advance seat registration, during the match between U.23 Thailand and U.23 Timor Leste, many fans discovered that the seats they had booked in the system... did not actually exist! There were many empty seats in the stands, while the system reported that the seats had been booked, Thairath Online reported.

For example, row 20 was booked, but the row above 19 was actually empty. Many people had to find new seats or sit in other areas. Therefore, the image of the Rajamangala stadium on the day of the match between U.23 Thailand and U.23 Timor Leste showed a very sparse crowd. The organizers announced that there were only about 7,741 spectators, compared to the stadium's capacity of up to 51,560 seats.

Also according to Thairath Online : "These are just basic management issues, but there are still many problems and incidents, showing that the preparation of the 33rd SEA Games organizing committee is too lax. The SEA Games will take place until December 20, raising questions about other problems that Thailand will face in the next two weeks. Or will this wave of criticism push the organizing committee to urgently improve all aspects before the opening ceremony?".
