Many Vietnam Airlines flights affected by storm No. 5
Based on the report of the Meteorological Center of Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), due to the impact of storm No. 5 (Kajiki), the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam ( Ministry of Construction ) has decided to temporarily stop receiving aircraft at Tho Xuan Airport (Thanh Hoa province) and Dong Hoi (Quang Tri province) on August 25, 2025.

Specifically, Tho Xuan Airport will temporarily suspend operations from 4:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Dong Hoi Airport from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on August 25 to ensure absolute safety for passengers, people, property, and equipment at the airports.
Previously, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam sent an urgent dispatch to relevant units to proactively prevent and respond to storm No. 5. The airports forecasted to be in the area directly affected by storm No. 5 include: Tho Xuan, Vinh, Dong Hoi and Phu Bai. Noi Bai, Cat Bi, Van Don, Da Nang international airports and Chu Lai and Pleiku airports updated information in case the storm had unusual developments.
To proactively respond to storm No. 5, ensure safety of flights, people and property at airports, and minimize negative impacts on flight operations, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam requires agencies and units to organize 24/7 duty; strictly implement storm and tropical depression response procedures in civil aviation activities.
The Civil Aviation Authority requests Van Don International Airport and airports under the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) in the area affected by storm No. 5 to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies and units to inspect the airport infrastructure system, communication system... to promptly detect and handle damage (if any) to ensure the safety of works, stations, and ensure safety for operations at airports.
At the same time, deploy plans to prevent rain and storms, measures to prevent flooding, clear the flow in airports, protect works, vehicles and equipment at airports, minimize damage caused by rain and storms and quickly stabilize all aviation activities to serve the needs of passengers.
Airports are required to implement plans to prevent rain, storms, and flooding to ensure safety for operations.
Multiple flight cancellations
Meanwhile, airlines said they had to adjust the operation plans of some flights to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
A representative of Vietnam Airlines said that due to the impact of storm No. 5 (Kajiki), the airline plans to adjust its operating schedule at Dong Hoi, Thanh Hoa, and Hue airports on August 24 and 25.
Specifically, at Phu Bai Airport (Hue) on August 24, flights VN1549, VN1548; VN7067, VN7066; VN7545, VN7544 between Hanoi and Hue; VN1378, VN1379 between Ho Chi Minh City and Hue will be canceled. On August 25, flights will have their operating times adjusted, expected to take off and land after 12 hours.
At Dong Hoi airport, on August 25, flights VN1404, VN1405 between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Hoi; VN1591, VN1590 between Hanoi and Dong Hoi will be canceled.
At Tho Xuan airport (Thanh Hoa) on August 25, flights between Thanh Hoa and Ho Chi Minh City, including: VN1273, VN1272, VN7270, VN7271, VN1276, VN1277, VN7276, VN7275, VN7079, VN7078, VN1278, VN1279 will be canceled.
In addition, many domestic and international flights on August 25 may be affected by the development of storm No. 5. Affected passengers will be supported by Vietnam Airlines according to regulations.
Similarly, Vietjet Air also said that some flights to and from Tho Xuan (Thanh Hoa), Vinh (Nghe An), Dong Hoi (Quang Tri), Phu Bai (Hue) airports and some other airports in the area affected by storm No. 5 may have to adjust their operation plans on August 24 and 25.
Previously, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam also sent an urgent dispatch to relevant units on prevention and response to storm No. 5.
Airlines and flight operations service providers are required to strengthen coordination; closely monitor the developments of storm No. 5 to have plans to adjust flight plans or change flight schedules accordingly and ensure flight safety.
In addition, fully update meteorological information from relevant aviation meteorological agencies and base on the actual situation to deploy necessary response actions, minimize impacts on operations, ensure flight safety, protect people and assets of the unit from natural disasters.
