On September 8, the State Council of Professors announced a list of 933 candidates recommended by the Basic Council of Professors to be considered for recognition as meeting the standards for the title of professor and associate professor in 2025. The number of candidates this year increased by about 38.6% compared to last year (673 candidates in 2024).

Specifically, among the 933 candidates, there are 89 candidates for professor (an increase of 26 compared to last year) and 844 candidates for associate professor (an increase of 234) across various disciplines/interdisciplinary fields.

Economics is the field with the highest number of applicants this year, with 153 people, including 11 professor candidates and 142 associate professor candidates.

Like in 2024, Medicine ranked second with 124 people, including 15 professor candidates and 109 associate professor candidates. Ranked third was the interdisciplinary Chemistry - Food Technology.

The fields with the least number of candidates proposed for consideration as professors and associate professors are Mechanics (7 people), Hydraulics (7 people), History - Archaeology - Ethnology/Anthropology (6 people), Metallurgy (3 people), Literature (1 person).

Eight professorial councils in specific/interdisciplinary fields have no professor candidates, including: Agriculture - Forestry, Law, Culture - Arts - Physical Education and Sports, Linguistics, Mechanics, Irrigation, History - Archaeology - Ethnology/Anthropology, and Literature.

The council of professors in the fields of Military Science and Security Science does not publicly disclose the candidates.

According to the plan, from August 29th to September 26th, the Council of Professors in each discipline and interdisciplinary field will continue to review the criteria for professor and associate professor titles.

Subsequently, from October 20th to 31st, the State Council of Professors will convene to review and approve the qualifications for the titles of professor and associate professor for the year 2025.

The youngest candidate for associate professor at the medical school is a woman, born in 1987. The youngest candidate for associate professor at Hanoi Medical University, born in 1987, is from Hung Yen (formerly Thai Binh).
