(Dan Tri Newspaper) - American media suggests that President Joe Biden never apparently set out to help Ukraine defeat Russia.

Time magazine noted that President Joe Biden's goals do not include Ukraine winning its conflict with Russia.
"President Joe Biden set three goals for the U.S. response in Ukraine. Ukraine's victory was never among them. The phrase the White House used to describe its mission at the time – supporting Ukraine 'as long as it is necessary' – was intentionally ambiguous. This also raises the question of what purpose it served," Time noted.
Eric Green, who worked on the Biden administration's National Security Council and was in charge of Russia policy at the time, told Time: "We deliberately avoided mentioning the territorial issue (in the message about supporting Ukraine)."
In other words, the U.S. is not committed to helping Ukraine regain all the territory controlled by Russia. Green said the reason is simple: the White House seems to believe that Ukraine is incapable of doing so, even with strong Western support.
"The more important goal is for Ukraine to exist as a sovereign , democratic, and free nation pursuing integration with the West," Green said, emphasizing that this is one of the three goals Biden has set.
In addition, Biden also wants the US and its allies to remain united and avoid direct conflict between Russia and NATO.
Looking back at Biden's leadership in the Ukraine war, he appears to have achieved these three goals, Time notes. However, this concept of "success" with such limitations does not satisfy even some of his closest allies and advisors.
Mr. Green argued that Ukraine has suffered significant losses and that too much uncertainty still awaits Kyiv in the future.
In recent times, Ukraine has expressed disappointment with Biden's policies, despite acknowledging strong support from the United States.
In an interview in early January, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that under Biden, the U.S. had not done enough to impose sanctions on Russia and provide weapons and security guarantees to Ukraine.
Zelensky argued that despite the US providing tens of billions of dollars in aid to Ukraine over the past nearly three years, the Biden administration remains overly cautious due to concerns about escalating conflict with Russia. Furthermore, Ukraine believes the US has yet to provide Kyiv with a clear path to NATO membership, even though Zelensky has repeatedly emphasized that this is crucial for the country's long-term security.
Biden did not go further on the issue of Ukraine's NATO membership. But he did approve some rather dangerous steps, such as allowing Ukraine to use American missiles to strike deep into Russian territory and imposing heavy sanctions on Russia's energy sector.
Time magazine noted that Biden and the U.S. commitment to defending Ukraine against Russia does not equate to helping Kyiv defeat Moscow. Therefore, it would be unsurprising if Zelensky's goals for the future of the conflict remain distant for Ukraine.
