On May 22, 2024, the 13th Southeast Asian School Games were announced in Hanoi, with the participation of the Steering Committee, the Organizing Committee, representatives from the embassies of the participating countries, representatives from central ministries and agencies, and representatives from Da Nang city - the host city of this year's Games.

On December 28, 2022, the Prime Minister signed Decision 1640/QD-TTg on hosting the 13th ASEAN Schools Games (ASG) in Vietnam.

The Games will officially take place from May 29th to June 9th, 2024 in Da Nang City, with the participation of over 1,300 athletes and coaches from 10 countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and host country Vietnam. The athletes will compete in 6 sports: swimming, athletics, badminton, basketball, pencak silat, and vovinam, with a total of 107 events.

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Chi, Deputy Minister of Education and Training and Head of the Organizing Committee, said that with the message "Connecting to Shine Together," the 13th Southeast Asian School Games is not only a place to honor sporting talent but also to promote the connection of students from countries in the region, uniting for a young generation in Southeast Asia that is integrated and developed.

First held in 2009, the ASEAN Schools Games is the largest sporting event for high school students in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), aiming to promote solidarity among ASEAN countries through school sports activities, providing opportunities for athletes to compete, exchange experiences, and improve the quality of physical education and sportsmanship.

Held in the summer – the most beautiful time of year in Da Nang, Vietnam's famous tourist city – this sporting event promises to attract a large number of domestic and international tourists and locals, thereby contributing to promoting the image of Vietnam, its people, cultural identity, and tourism to international friends.
