After the storm and flood, most of the main canals, channels, and transfer canals belonging to pumping stations and irrigation stations managed by Dong Cam Irrigation Company Limited were damaged, causing more than 86 billion VND in damage. This affected thousands of hectares of winter-spring rice that were about to be sown.

Currently, Dong Cam Irrigation Company Limited is focusing on human resources and machinery to repair the main canal of the South running along National Highway 29, through Son Thanh and Tay Hoa communes and Dong Hoa and Hoa Hiep wards. Along with that, the unit has sent forces to reinforce many other eroded canals such as N8 canal, Binh Son canal, N1 canal, N2 Nam canal...

Mr. Nguyen Van Chien, Deputy Director of Dong Cam Irrigation Company Limited, said: "We are working day and night to repair the items in time to open water for the upcoming winter-spring crop. With the current level of damage, this year's rice crop is expected to be later than every year. However, the company recommends that people follow the sowing schedule of the agricultural sector."

According to the plan, most canal items will be prioritized for repair in phase 1.

Some irrigation works that need a large amount of funding for repair are the embankment on the left bank of the South Main Canal and the Tam Giang Dam. The Tam Giang Dam is about 800 meters long, serving irrigation for more than 800 hectares of rice in Tuy An Dong Commune. Currently, the middle section of the dam has been washed away by floodwaters, and the embankment and the downstream drainage culvert are also damaged.

"According to the plan, the 50 meter section of the broken Tam Giang dam will be rebuilt with a proposed budget of 100 billion VND," added Mr. Nguyen Van Chien, Deputy Director of Dong Cam Irrigation Company Limited.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, recently, the whole province has 48 canals and irrigation works affected by floods, of which 28 works are in the eastern part of the province and 20 works are in the western part of the province. To ensure water supply for irrigation for the 2025-2026 Winter-Spring crop, the department has proposed the Provincial People's Committee to unify the repair of these canals and irrigation works.

Ms. Dang Thi Thuy, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: "The Department has reported agricultural damage and support plans to the Provincial People's Committee. While waiting for the central government to allocate funds, the agricultural sector has mobilized forces to repair damaged irrigation systems and overcome the consequences caused by natural disasters to soon provide water for farmers to restore production for the upcoming Winter-Spring rice crop."

According to Ms. Thuy, the department has issued a schedule for sowing rice in the 2025-2026 Winter-Spring crop. In particular, areas with proactive irrigation water will sow rice from December 20, 2025 to January 10, 2026. Areas with slow flood water receding can sow rice seedlings after January 10, 2026. It is expected that about 9,400 hectares of rice in the eastern part of the province will receive water from the North and South canal systems of Dong Cam dam and Tam Giang dam system to sow rice late at the end of January 2026.
