Focus on thoroughly handling street vending on Nguyen Hue walking street

On the afternoon of June 27, the People's Committee of District 1 (HCMC) held a conference to deploy a plan to transform the security and order situation at Nguyen Hue walking street (Ben Nghe ward).

According to Colonel Nguyen Phuoc Hai, Chief of District 1 Police, units will synchronously deploy professional measures, review and grasp the situation to identify criminal gangs operating on Nguyen Hue walking street to proactively fight and eradicate them.

Especially "street crime" gangs, crimes related to "black credit", drug crimes, acts of disturbing public order, intentional injury, resisting law enforcement officers and subjects who herd the elderly and children to beg...

The authorities will work with restaurants, hotels, businesses, trading establishments, parking lots on the walking street and branch roads leading to Nguyen Hue Street; request a commitment to strictly comply with regulations on maintaining urban order, environmental sanitation, not allowing vehicles to encroach on the roadway and sidewalks; strictly handle illegal parking and parking at prices higher than regulations.

At the same time, strictly handle cases of renting electric cars, renting fake animals for tourists to take pictures; circus acts, children blowing fire; spontaneous art programs without permission. Especially, thoroughly handle the situation of street vending; parking on the road affecting traffic safety and order; illegally established parking lots, charging high parking fees.

Speaking at the conference, District 1 Party Secretary Duong Anh Duc said that Nguyen Hue walking street is a symbol of Ho Chi Minh City, a place that attracts domestic and foreign tourists, and is also the place where many cultural, political and social events are held. Therefore, Nguyen Hue walking street has become a brand of Ho Chi Minh City.

The Secretary of District 1 Party Committee emphasized that keeping Nguyen Hue walking street clean and civilized is the responsibility of the entire political system. Therefore, the authorities need to have close coordination between forces and departments so that Nguyen Hue walking street becomes an increasingly attractive place for tourists to visit, have fun and entertain.

In the first 6 months of 2024, the Nguyen Hue walking street area recorded 1 case of pickpocketing tourists; 2 cases of motorbike theft. Through screening, the police discovered and filed a case against 2 groups of 5 subjects and 1 suspect involved in loan sharking activities with street vendors on Nguyen Hue walking street. Notably, there was also a kidnapping of 2 children on April 3 on Dong Khoi street.

At the same time, there are 40 cases of street vending from 6pm to midnight every day of the week; 3 illegal parking lots operating in the area.
