The majestic and pristine Khau Lan Waterfall, surrounded by lush tropical forests, is a relatively unknown destination and not yet exploited by tour operators. Located in Quyet Tien commune, Quan Ba district, Ha Giang province, it is more than 40km from Ha Giang city.

From the city center, visitors travel to the center of Quyet Tien commune, then continue for 10km to reach the trekking point down to the foot of the waterfall.

The photos of Khau Lan waterfall were taken by San Tai Chi (29 years old, commonly known as Ta Ba Lo), a young man working in tourism in Ha Giang. In 2019, after graduating from the National Economics University, Tai returned to his hometown to work on an ecotourism project, collaborating with ethnic minority people in Ha Giang. The photos attracted attention on social media, leading many people to contact Chi for more information.

According to Mr. Chi, the trekking distance to the waterfall is only about 1km, equivalent to 15-20 minutes of travel, not too strenuous. The path leading to the foot of the waterfall runs through the forest, so the air is fresh and pleasant, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenery while trekking. The path has also been cleared and steps have been added by the locals for convenience.

Visitors should note that since the waterfall is not yet located on navigation apps, if traveling independently, you should frequently ask locals for directions to avoid getting lost.

According to Mr. Chi's estimate, the waterfall is about 20 meters high and over 10 meters wide. The waterfall has a large volume of water, cascading down into the reservoir at its base, creating a white, frothy spray. Ancient trees and lush vines surround the waterfall on both sides, creating a unique and pristine landscape.

Interestingly, the lake at the foot of the waterfall is not only clear and cool, but also has small patches of land where visitors can pitch tents and have simple meals while enjoying themselves and swimming in the waterfall. However, these open spaces are not very large and are located near the stream, so visitors should not camp overnight.

The ideal time to go trekking and swim at Khau Lan Waterfall is from June to October. Visitors can go with a local porter for safety. Additionally, you should bring insect repellent and avoid rainy or humid days.

According to Mr. Tai, in addition to admiring the waterfall, visitors to the area near Khau Lan Waterfall can combine their trip with exploring Quyet Tien commune, home to many ethnic minority communities such as the Dao, Nhung, Tay, and Bo Y people. These are some of the particularly small ethnic communities in Ha Giang, boasting many beautiful aspects of their culture, language, architecture, clothing, and cuisine . Visitors can watch bronze drum dances, listen to folk songs, and enjoy local specialties such as black glutinous rice cakes, horn-shaped cakes, and corn wine made with fermented leaves.
