According to Times of India , the rare accident occurred at the Sawan festival held at Panchmukhi Shiva temple in Itahia town (Maharajganj district, Uttar Pradesh state, India) on the evening of July 29.
A video of the shocking moment quickly went viral on social media, showing the motorbike continuing to speed around the well after the rider fell. Many spectators screamed in amazement, while others backed away, fearing the bike would lose control.
The moment a driverless motorbike rushed into the "well of death" (Video: Time of India).
The video also shows two cars and several other people inside the cylindrical well at the time of the accident.
Meanwhile, the Free Press Journal reported that the young man driving the motorbike fell from a height of about 4.5 meters, while the motorbike continued to circle around inside the "well of death" for nearly an hour.
Immediately after the incident, local authorities were present to handle the scene. Local government representative, Mr. Nand Prakash Maurya confirmed that the festival organizers had been licensed to organize swing games, but the “well of death” area (also known as “Maut Ka Kuan”) was built spontaneously, without permission from the authorities.
“The stunt area was installed without any specific permission. That evening, a young man riding a motorbike in the well fell and was injured,” Mr. Maurya confirmed.

After the accident, the “well of death” area was ordered to be closed immediately, while the remaining game areas at the fair were directed to strictly comply with safety regulations.
“The Well of Death” – similar to “flying motorbikes” in Vietnam – is a popular form of stunt performance at traditional fairs in India. Performers drive motorbikes or cars up the vertical wall of a cylindrical structure, relying on centrifugal force to maintain balance. However, this game has a high risk of accidents if there are no adequate technical and safety measures.
