Strengthening European-Vietnamese partnership in higher education

DNVN - At Erasmus+ Day, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc emphasized that so far the partnership between Europe and Vietnam has developed strongly, in which higher education cooperation is a major focus.

The Erasmus+ Day conference, organized by the European Union Delegation to Vietnam (EUDEL) in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Training in Hanoi, attracted the participation of nearly 50 higher education institutions from European Union (EU) member countries and more than 100 higher education institutions in Vietnam.

The event was attended by the Vice President of the European Commission, the Deputy Minister of Education and Training, the EU Ambassador to Vietnam, the Romanian Ambassador and representatives of EU member states in Vietnam. At the same time, Erasmus+ Day also attracted more than 500 online followers, demonstrating strong interest in Erasmus+ in Vietnam - the EU's flagship programme for education, training, youth and sports .

The event takes place on October 22-23.

Vice President of the European Commission, Mr. Margaritis Schinas shared: "Erasmus+ has long been a symbol of excellence in education and cultural exchange in Europe. However, the international scope of the program goes far beyond the EU, promoting global partnerships and enhancing mutual understanding. Expanding the scope of Erasmus+ not only opens up more educational opportunities but also strengthens cooperation with countries around the world, including Vietnam."

Also at the conference, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc said: "Education and training is a top priority policy of Vietnam and education development is considered one of three strategic breakthroughs to implement Vietnam's Socio-Economic Development Strategy. Vietnam clearly understands the need to proactively integrate with the world and promote foreign investment in the education sector to improve the quality of education in the country. It can be said that so far, the partnership between Europe and Vietnam has developed strongly, in which higher education cooperation is a major focus. In particular, since 2015, when the Erasmus+ program officially started its first phase in Vietnam to support capacity building, expand connections and scientific research cooperation between higher education institutions in Europe and Vietnam, it has become stronger and achieved many remarkable achievements."

The Erasmus+ discussions focused on the main components including Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE), International Credit Mobility (ICM) and Jean Monnet Component (JMA). In addition, university representatives from both regions also shared practical experiences, illustrating the achievements and opportunities that Erasmus+ brings.

The conference provided an opportunity for delegates to explore the potential for cooperation, thereby contributing to promoting the internationalization and modernization of higher education in Vietnam. In addition, the discussion focused on Project 89 - a program to develop high-quality human resources in Vietnam. The event also included an exchange session between the EU alumni network and European businesses in Vietnam, aiming to meet the needs of businesses for human resources, thereby expanding training to suit reality, ...

The Erasmus+ conference follows the success of the recent European Education Fair on October 19 and 20 in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, attracting nearly 3,000 attendees, marking an important step within the framework of the European Education Week 2024.

Vietnam is a key partner of the European Union in the field of education, one of the main focuses of the Global Gateway Strategy. The sustained bilateral cooperation has led to significant achievements over the years. Vietnam is the leading country in Asia with 96 projects receiving funding from the CBHE Programme in 2015-2024. From 2015 to 2023, more than 3,400 Vietnamese students and education staff have had the opportunity to participate in short-term exchange programmes in Europe under the ICM Component. The number of Vietnamese students receiving the EU's prestigious Erasmus Mundus scholarships has also been in the top 20 worldwide for many years.
