As Thanh Nien newspaper reported, expert Park Chung-gun of the Vietnamese shooting team has returned to South Korea after his contract expired on August 31st.
Under the guidance of Mr. Park Chung-gun for over 10 years as an expert, Vietnamese shooting has achieved many successes, such as 1 gold and 1 silver medal won by Hoang Xuan Vinh at the 2016 Olympics, 1 gold medal won by Pham Quang Huy at the 19th Asian Games, 1 team gold medal won by Quang Huy and Trinh Thu Vinh at the 2023 Asian Shooting Championships, and shooter Thu Vinh reaching the top 4 at the 2024 Olympics, reaching the finals in both events.
Expert Park Chung-gun has been offered a contract extension.
However, throughout the period after his contract expired, Park Chung-gun was not contacted to negotiate a new agreement. The South Korean expert returned home dejectedly, receiving no support, encouragement, or thanks. He told Thanh Nien Newspaper: "Perhaps I will retire with honor. I am very disappointed and can't wait any longer."
Subsequently, Thanh Nien Newspaper published an article titled "From the story of Hoang Xuan Vinh's Korean coach: When will we stop being 'unfair' to talented people?", published this afternoon (September 12), with the argument that expert Park Chung-gun deserves to be treated more fairly and professionally.
By the evening of September 12th, sources from Thanh Nien Newspaper reported that the Department of Sports and Physical Education was preparing a proposal to extend the contract with expert Park Chung-gun. In a letter sent to the South Korean expert, the leaders of Vietnam's sports sector wrote: "Over the past 10 years, Vietnamese shooting, under your guidance, has achieved proud accomplishments. Although we did not meet expectations at the recent Paris Olympics, there were still some bright spots to be noted."

Specifically, the Department of Sports and Physical Education proposed signing a contract with Mr. Park Chung-gun in two phases:
- 2024: from October 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024
- 2025: from January 3, 2025 to December 31, 2025
Specifically, the key objective assigned to Hoang Xuan Vinh's South Korean coach is to win 1 to 2 gold medals at the 2026 Asian Games and 1 gold medal at the 2028 Olympics.
The Department of Sports and Physical Education and Mr. Park Chung-gun are expected to hold negotiations in the next few days.
