
According to KBS news agency, the first event within the framework of APEC Week is the APEC Senior Officials' Meeting (CSOM) taking place on October 27-28. In its role as Chair, Korea will share with participating countries the preparation for the APEC Summit and the discussion of two main agendas: "Artificial Intelligence (AI) Cooperation" and "Responding to Population Changes".
The results of the APEC Senior Officials' Meeting will be reported to the APEC Ministerial Meeting (AMM) taking place on October 29-30. The Ministerial Meeting, with the participation of Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministers of 21 APEC member economies, is the final review meeting before the summit.
The meeting was divided into two sessions, the first one discussing how to respond to regional challenges through digital cooperation, the second one discussing how to strengthen regional supply chains by applying new technologies. The discussions at the meeting will help to further shape the level of APEC's support for the multilateral trade mechanism, which is expected to be reflected in the "Gyeongju Declaration" summarizing the results of the APEC Summit.
In addition, the Korean government is also promoting the adoption of a document on AI cooperation, a key topic this year, and is discussing the adoption of another statement at the Inter-Ministerial Conference.
The APEC Summit plenary session, chaired by South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, will be divided into two sessions. The first session on October 31, with the theme "Towards a More Connected and Resilient World ", is expected to discuss cooperation plans to increase investment and trade.
The second session on November 1 was themed “Asia-Pacific Vision: Ready for Future Change”, which focused on discussing ways to create new growth drivers in the region amid the development of AI and demographic changes.
From October 28-31, the APEC CEO Summit will take place, bringing together leaders of the world's leading businesses.
Korea's Super Diplomatic Week
According to KBS, APEC week is a "super diplomatic week" in Korea, with a series of summits between Korea and the US, the US and China, and Korea and China. For the first time in history, the leaders of the US and China paid a state visit to Korea.
The South Korea-US summit is scheduled to take place on the afternoon of October 29, and is expected to conclude tariff negotiations between the two countries.
US-China leaders will hold talks on October 30.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung will hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on November 1. In addition, President Lee Jae Myung will also hold his first talks with new Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae.
