According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Phu Tho, immediately after merging the three provinces of Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc and Hoa Binh into the new Phu Tho province, the locality quickly took over, effectively and synchronously exploited the sports facilities system to serve training and competition. Currently, Phu Tho has quite comprehensive physical facilities, capable of hosting national, regional and international tournaments.
In just a short time, from the beginning of 2025 until now, Phu Tho has continuously successfully organized many major sporting events, leaving a strong impression in the hearts of fans such as: AFC Women's Asian Cup Australia 2026, VTV Cup International Women's Volleyball Tournament 2025, Southeast Asian Women's Football Championship 2025, VTV LPBank International Marathon 2025, National Chess and Go Cup Championship 2025, 30th National Youth Road and Mountain Cycling Tournament 2025, Qualifying Round of Asian U23 Football Tournament 2026, and Youth Volleyball Championship Club Cup 2025.
The continuous success in hosting large-scale tournaments not only affirms Phu Tho’s organizational capacity and professionalism, but also shows the image of a dynamic locality that is gradually rising to become a strong sports center in the region. This is also a clear demonstration of the comprehensive sports development strategy, harmoniously combining grassroots sports and high-performance sports that the province is persistently implementing.
In the Plan for the Development of Sports in Phu Tho Province for the period 2026 - 2030, the province aims to build a comprehensive sports foundation, harmoniously developing grassroots sports and high-performance sports. Currently, along with the preparation for the Sports Congress at all levels, towards the 10th National Sports Congress in 2026, Phu Tho is actively researching and perfecting the incentive policy mechanism, supporting coaches and athletes, creating motivation for them to confidently devote themselves to the province's sports career for a long time.

Sports connect and promote tourism development
Not only is it the homeland of the nation with unique cultural and spiritual values, Phu Tho is gradually affirming its position as an attractive destination for the trend of "sports tourism" - where visitors can both experience culture and immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of large-scale sporting events.
The year 2024 marks a strong turning point when Phu Tho continuously organizes many major domestic and international tournaments. A typical example is the Hung Temple Spirituality Marathon - held for the first time in the Ancestral Land, gathering nearly 6,000 domestic and foreign athletes. This is not only a sporting event but also a meaningful journey back to the roots, helping to promote the culture of the Ancestral Land to international friends. Following the success, Viet Tri city became the center of attention when hosting the Group I Qualifying Round of the 2025 AFC U17 Football Championship, attracting a large number of spectators and tourists. In the same year, Viet Tri Stadium continued to be chosen as the home ground of the Vietnam National Team at the ASEAN Cup 2024, where witnessed the 18-match unbeaten streak and the historic victory of Vietnamese football - turning this place into an "impregnable fortress" in the hearts of fans. Sports events have brought about a strong ripple effect, promoting the image of Phu Tho tourism on the media and social networks.
During the competition, Viet Tri welcomed more than 70,000 visitors, with tourism revenue estimated at over 50 billion VND. Destinations, OCOP products, and local specialties were widely promoted, contributing to deepening the image of the friendly, hospitable, and rich-in-identity Homeland. With advantages in sports infrastructure, landscape, and people, Phu Tho is rising to become a new sports tourism center of the Northern region, opening up a direction for sustainable development, linking culture - sports - tourism in the integration era.
Sports tourism is a growing trend in the world. According to the definition of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), this is a type of tourism in which tourists participate in or watch competitive sports activities, thereby experiencing the destination in a vivid and different way. In fact, sports tourism is considered one of the fastest growing sectors of the global tourism industry.
This type of tourism not only attracts high-spending tourists who use many services and contribute positively to local revenue, but also helps reduce the seasonality of tourism, is an effective channel to promote destinations, and enhances cultural exchange and community connection.
Not only has natural advantages, Phu Tho is also a unique cultural and spiritual destination, with the Hung Temple Historical Site, Xuan Son National Park, Long Coc tea hill, Van Hoi lagoon and many traditional craft villages. This is the perfect combination of sports - tourism - cultural experiences, giving visitors more reasons to explore and stay longer in the sacred land of the Ancestors.
According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Phu Tho, combining sports with tourism is a new and promising direction, promising to bring unique tourism products that attract tourists. However, for this model to be effective, the province needs a systematic investment strategy - from modern sports infrastructure, organizing professional tournaments, to promoting events, connecting tours and routes and improving service quality to meet the increasing needs of tourists. Currently, there is still a lot of room for sports tourism development in Vietnam. With the success of national and international sports events in recent times, Phu Tho is gradually affirming its advantages and potential in this field. To exploit effectively, the province needs to strengthen the connection between event organizers, travel agencies, tourist areas and service establishments, forming a chain of high-quality sports tourism products, creating a strong impression for domestic and foreign tourists.
Phu Tho's tourism and sports infrastructure is increasingly being improved: modern Viet Tri Stadium, international standard hotel and resort systems, rich culinary and entertainment services... creating ideal conditions for organizing large-scale sporting events.
Phu Tho is recording a clear change in tourism thinking: not only exploiting existing values but also proactively creating new and unique tourism products. Cultural and spiritual tourism with Hung Temple and Au Co Temple is connected with resort, ecological and health care tourism. Cultural, sports and festival events are held regularly, creating reasons for tourists to return. Promotion and advertising work is professionally promoted through digital platforms and tourism fairs, bringing the image of the Ancestral Land Tourism to the domestic and international market.
The mass sports movement has also developed strongly. The campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho" has entered life, improving people's health and physique, creating a solid foundation for the development of top sports.
In the coming time, Phu Tho will continue to invest in infrastructure, promote its image and cooperate with tourism businesses to improve its position. Successfully organizing sports events not only contributes to improving the spiritual life of the people but also helps Phu Tho become a bright spot on the map of Vietnam's sports tourism.
Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Phu Tho Duong Hoang Huong said that in the coming period, the province will identify culture and people as a breakthrough, turning culture into an important endogenous resource for sustainable development. Key tasks include shaping the value system and cultural identity of Phu Tho, researching and systematizing the core elements of local people, and harmoniously combining regional cultural nuances to create a diverse but unified identity.
The province focuses on preserving and promoting heritage values associated with tourism, with plans to build archaeological parks in Trai hamlet, Vanh village, Ren hamlet, Dong Dau, and at the same time prepare dossiers to request UNESCO to recognize additional heritages such as Mo Muong and Tay Thien Mother Worship.
Phu Tho also aims to develop unique tourism products, linking spiritual - historical - ecological - resort tourism routes, investing in Hoa Binh Lake and Tam Dao Lake tourist areas that meet national standards, developing community tourism, experiences and sports. The province strives to become a national event center, hosting sports tournaments, cultural festivals, international fairs, and iconic structures such as Hung Vuong Tower.
In addition, digital transformation and cultural industry development are also focused on, with activities of digitizing heritage data, building digital maps of cultural heritage and developing creative industries such as cinema, performance, and cultural tourism.
Phu Tho is converging all the "heavenly time, favorable terrain, and harmony of people" to make a breakthrough. The sacred position of the Ancestral Land, combined with the great potential of the new development space, creates a strong driving force. With the long-term vision, drastic steps and consensus of the entire Party and People, Phu Tho can completely become a top province in the region, an attractive destination, a spreading cultural center, worthy of the position of the Hung Kings' Ancestral Land - the origin of the Vietnamese nation.
Phu Tho deploys the Campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho" until 2030
The People's Committee of Phu Tho province has just issued Plan No. 6650/KH-UBND on implementing the Campaign "All people practice physical exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho" in the province until 2030.
The campaign aims to create a strong change in the awareness and actions of cadres, party members and people about the role and significance of physical training and sports following the ideology and example of President Ho Chi Minh; at the same time, build a mass sports movement that develops widely and sustainably, contributing to improving the health, physical strength and stature of Phu Tho people to serve the cause of industrialization, modernization and international integration.
The province aims to have over 42% of the population regularly exercising and over 33% of families participating in sports by 2025; by 2030, these figures will reach over 45% and 40% respectively. 100% of communes and wards will have standard grassroots cultural and sports facilities.
In the field of school sports, strive to have 98% of students meet physical training standards by 2030, 100% of high schools have sports clubs and training facilities. In the armed forces, 100% of military units and over 90% of police units organize regular sports activities, maintaining the rate of officers and soldiers meeting physical training standards at over 85-100%.
The plan also sets a target that by 2030, over 98% of communes and wards will organize Sports Festivals and over 85% of units will organize Sports Activity Month for everyone in conjunction with Olympic Running Day for public health.
To achieve the goal, the province will focus on 6 key groups of tasks: promoting propaganda, building a network of proper training instructions, inter-sectoral coordination in managing and organizing the movement, strengthening mass sports tournaments, investing resources to implement the campaign, and replicating advanced models and examples.
The Provincial People's Committee requires that the implementation of the campaign must be carried out synchronously, practically and in accordance with the actual conditions after the merger of the province, associated with emulation movements, socio-economic development programs, new rural construction, and civilized urban areas. Localities and units need to promote the role of the community, the spirit of self-management and creativity in organizing implementation; at the same time, objectively evaluate and promptly reward collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements, creating motivation to spread the sports training movement widely among the people.
