“Two ships successfully passed through our temporary ‘grain corridor’,” Mr Zelenskyy posted on X. “Ukraine is restoring real freedom of navigation in the Black Sea.”

He did not name the vessels involved or say when the voyages would take place. So far, four cargo ships have successfully navigated the temporary corridor.

Russia has blockaded Ukrainian ports since the conflict broke out in February 2022, threatening to treat all ships as potential military targets after pulling out of a Black Sea grain initiative deal in July.

The grain deal has allowed Ukraine, a major agricultural exporter, to ship tens of millions of tonnes of products to other countries over the past year.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet his Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan on Monday in the Black Sea resort of Sochi as Ankara and the United Nations seek to revive a grain export deal.

Russia left the deal in July after a year of participation, complaining that it was hampering its food and fertilizer exports.
