This match is taking place in Group C, which has received a lot of attention from the Vietnamese U21 women's volleyball team. This is because the teams from Group A and Group C will face each other in the round of 16.
Since Vietnam has already secured second place in Group A, the opponent for Coach Nguyen Trong Linh's team will be the third-placed team in Group C.
Just yesterday, this position belonged to the Czech Republic – who surprisingly beat Türkiye 3-2, moving up to third place, behind Italy and Poland.
This is also considered the "group of death" of the Women's U21 World Volleyball Championship, as it brings together four strong European teams: Italy, Poland, Turkey, and the Czech Republic.
Among these, Italy is considered the strongest women's volleyball nation in the world currently, while Poland and Türkiye are on par. The Czech Republic is the weakest, but still ranks 13th in the senior women's volleyball rankings and 25th at the U21 level.
It could be said that facing the Czech Republic created a significant opportunity for Vietnam to advance. But then, surprises continued to appear in the final matchday, when Italy lost 2-3 to Türkiye.
With this result, Türkiye temporarily moved up to 3rd place with 9 points, behind Italy (12 points) and Poland (10 points), and ahead of the Czech Republic (8 points).
This is only a provisional ranking because the Czech Republic and Poland will face each other tonight in a match that will decide the final standings in the group.
If the Czech Republic beat Poland, they could even take second place in the group, pushing Poland down to third and Türkiye down to fourth. In that case, the opponent for the Vietnam U21 women's volleyball team would be Poland.
If Poland wins, Türkiye will most likely finish in third place, becoming Vietnam's opponent in the round of 16.
In any case, this is not good news for the Vietnamese U21 women's volleyball team, because Poland and Türkiye are both "towering powerhouses" in the world of women's volleyball, from the youth level to the national team.
In the national team rankings, Poland is currently ranked 3rd in the world, while Türkiye is 6th. In the U21 rankings, Poland is 12th and Turkey is 5th.
