At that time, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed diverting gas shipments from the Nord Stream pipelines, which had been damaged by the explosion, to Ankara.
In December 2023, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak confirmed that Russia's energy giant Gazprom and Ankara had agreed to prepare a roadmap for Turkey's gas hub project, and further decisions on the project would be announced soon.
