On December 11th, at the connecting point for tourists traveling between the Ban Gioc Waterfall (Vietnam) and Duc Thien (China) scenic areas, the Standing Office of the Cao Bang Coordination Committee and the Guangxi Inter-Ministerial Working Group held the 15th meeting on the implementation of the Agreement on cooperation in protecting and exploiting tourism resources of Ban Gioc Waterfall (Vietnam) and Duc Thien (China).

The talks took place in the context of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Protection and Exploitation of Tourism Resources of Ban Gioc Waterfall (Vietnam) - Duc Thien Waterfall (China), which was signed by the two governments exactly 10 years ago (November 5, 2015 - November 5, 2025).
Both sides conducted a comprehensive and objective review of the results of the coordinated operation of the Ban Gioc Waterfall - Duc Thien Scenic Area. The review focused on the progress of implementing the agreements reached at the 14th meeting, with a focus on the implementation of important common understandings reached at the direct working meeting between the Secretary of the Cao Bang Provincial Party Committee and the Secretary of the Guangxi Party Committee (June 5, 2025).
Based on that, both sides acknowledged the positive results achieved, such as effective coordination and organization for tourists from both sides; maintaining regular exchanges on the landscape area; and continuing to promote cooperation on the construction of the border marker square.
The organization of cross-border travel between the Ban Gioc Waterfall Scenic Area (Vietnam) and Duc Thien (China) has been implemented seriously and systematically, fully complying with the provisions of the Agreement. By the end of December 5th, the scenic area had welcomed over 43,700 visitors. Since the beginning of this year alone, the two sides have received 21,969 visitors.
At the program, Cao Bang province put forward several specific proposals regarding the continued maintenance of information exchange mechanisms, promoting coordination, ensuring security and order, and developing the Ban Gioc Waterfall tourist area. They also proposed plans for investment and protection of the landscape against natural disasters and climate change, avoiding any impact on the current state of the tourist area's landscape.
Both sides agreed to maintain a mechanism for information exchange, coordinate the development of regulations for managing the shared landscape area, continue researching options to improve the quality of tourism services within the landscape area, and diversify tourism products to attract visitors.
Both sides agreed to strive to complete the project dossier for the border marker square and report it to the Vietnam-China Joint Border Committee before February 2026. After approval, construction will begin and efforts will be made to complete it in 2026 to promote the sustainable development of the shared landscape area, making it an attractive destination for domestic and international tourists.

Ban Gioc Waterfall is considered a place of majestic, fairy-tale-like scenery on the Quay Son River, located in Dam Thuy commune (formerly Trung Khanh district), Cao Bang province. The waterfall not only boasts magnificent natural beauty but is also steeped in a legendary love story of a young man and woman from the mountainous region.
Located on the Vietnam-China border, Ban Gioc Waterfall is renowned as one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Vietnam, the largest natural waterfall in Southeast Asia, and the fourth largest waterfall in the world situated on a border. Ban Gioc Waterfall is over 60 meters high, with its steepest drop measuring 30 meters. It is divided into many cascading limestone layers, stretching hundreds of meters across. In the middle of the waterfall is a wide mound of land covered with lush greenery, dividing the river into three separate branches.
