Over the past 25 years of implementation, the movement has grown stronger, linking with many other movements related to security and order, building new rural areas, and civilized urban areas. According to statistics, in 2000, Can Tho province recognized 476,071 out of 592,755 households as cultural households, reaching 80.31%; and 337 out of 921 hamlets and areas as cultural areas, reaching 36.59%. To date, the entire city has recognized 810,740 out of 856,000 households as cultural households, reaching 94.71%; and 1,812 out of 1,899 hamlets and areas as "Cultural Hamlets/Areas", reaching 95.42%. District-level units of Can Tho City have recognized 24 wards and towns as meeting the standards of civilized urban areas for the 2023-2025 period.
Implementing Project No. 07-DA/TU of the City Party Committee on the development of culture in Can Tho City for the period 2021-2030, the City People's Committee has issued a specific action program with high political determination to ensure that culture truly becomes a resource and driving force for development. In particular, the city's cultural institutions after the merger are very well-established. The entire city has 5 public museums, 20 exhibition halls and traditional houses; 3 provincial-level libraries, 28 district-level libraries, 204 commune-level libraries, 177 reading rooms, 30 community book collections at Khmer pagodas, social centers, and commune post offices /cultural centers; 2 theaters... With a system of facilities serving the development of the cultural industry, the city currently has more than 600 tourism service businesses, more than 100 domestic and international travel agencies; and 635 advertising businesses. Approximately 400 performing arts units, teams, and groups; over 300 establishments registered to conduct business in performing arts, film, fine arts, and photography; and 6 cinema complexes…
Speaking at the conference, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, requested that in the coming time, all levels and sectors, with the Culture, Sports and Tourism sector as the core, should continue to thoroughly implement the goals, viewpoints, tasks, and solutions for building and developing Vietnamese culture and people. She emphasized raising awareness among Party committees, government agencies, the Fatherland Front, and member organizations about the position, role, and importance of building and developing culture. She also stressed the need to promote the application of digital technology and digital transformation in the cultural sector to gradually meet the requirements of the new situation. City leaders requested that relevant agencies pay more attention to the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage; focus on building a healthy cultural environment, and especially continue to promote the values and standards of Can Tho people in accordance with the requirements of the new era. At the same time, she called for improving the quality of cultural titles and cultural activities to meet the needs of the people.
On this occasion, many collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in implementing the "All people unite to build a cultured life" movement and the implementation of Action Program No. 15/CTr-UBND were commended by the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City and the Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the city.
