According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, on December 12th, a strong cold front from the North continued to move southward and is expected to affect many areas from December 13th.
The cold air mass will first affect the Northeast region, then spread to the North Central, Northwest, and Central regions. Northeast winds over land will gradually strengthen to level 3-4, reaching level 4-5 in some coastal areas, with gusts up to level 7-8.
From December 13th, Northern Vietnam will experience a noticeable drop in temperature. Mountainous and midland areas will experience intense cold on December 13th and 14th, with some high mountain areas experiencing severe cold; many areas in the Northern Delta will also experience intense cold. The North Central region will begin to experience cold weather from the night of December 13th. The lowest temperatures will generally be: 7–10°C in mountainous and midland areas of Northern Vietnam, below 5°C in high mountain areas, 11–14°C in the Northern Delta, and 12–15°C in the North Central region.
In Hanoi , moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast for the night of December 12th and throughout December 13th, with the risk of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind. From December 13th onwards, the weather will turn cold, with some areas experiencing severe cold, and the lowest temperature reaching 12–14 degrees Celsius.
In the Northwest and Northeast mountainous regions on December 12th, there will be scattered rain, with light rain in the evening and night. From the night of December 12th to the end of December 13th, many areas such as the Northeast, western Phu Tho, eastern Son La, and eastern Lao Cai will experience moderate to heavy rain, with some areas experiencing very heavy rain and thunderstorms, with rainfall amounts of 30–70mm, and localized areas exceeding 120mm. From the night of December 13th to the end of the night of December 14th, rain spread to provinces from Quang Tri to Da Nang and the eastern parts of provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa, with moderate to heavy rainfall, and very heavy rain in some areas. The meteorological agency warned that heavy rain could cause flooding in low-lying areas, flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides; intense rainfall in a short period of time could easily cause flooding in urban areas and industrial zones.
At sea, strong northeasterly winds of force 6 have appeared in the northeastern part of the South China Sea (including the eastern part of the Paracel Islands).
